View Full Version : Is this bike worth keeping?

I bought my first bike a Hyosung GV250 EFI 2010 in a private sale two months ago. As soon as i got it in the first five minutes something went wrong which the clutch a bolt and seal had come loose and stopped the gearing from locking in. So i had to call a mobile mechanic which i never plan to do again after getting over charge for that :angry2: . A week or so later the bike just stop took it to an electrician it looked like the regulator/rectifier had stopped working so i replaced that. Two days ago i pull up at uni and the new regulator/rectifier was smoking, so i take it back to the electrician and it looks like the last owner had charged up the battery to cover up the the stator and regulator/rectifier didn't work :crybaby:. Now i have to take it to a dealer to check that something else hasn't failed aswell. I love the bike when its working but the amount of break downs it has is draining all my money. i was thinking of cutting my loses and getting a cb125e or something.
I wondering is this worth keeping or is it a lemon?

its a hyobag and youre a norklander, which puts this squarely inside the realms of 'not giving a fuck'
and should provide at least two valuable life lessons for you.

How dare you offer practical advice, this is KB!
The downside for the OP is that bikes are only value for money when you know enough of both the bike and its history.

Now he has given what problems he's having/had with it ... who in their right minds would buy it .. ???
Hyo's resale "value" (for want of a better word) was never great to start with ...
But in answer to the question in the original post ... IMHO ... no ... :shifty:

Get it going and flick it off to the next unsuspecting owner ..............
Better yet, get it going and trade it in on a reliable bike ........:shifty:

or do what anybody else on tardme does:
"Shitbag 50 for sale. One careful lady owner, always garaged, serviced every two weeks by the Repsol Honda MotoGP team on their days off. Completely reliable, only ridden on sunny Sundays to church. Only selling to upgrade, reluctant sale, Expressions of interest over $8000"

surely the electrician would've metered out the stator as it's often these that cause the rec/reg to fail?????? rather than just tell you to get a new rec/reg

Dont forget, "Has been dropped by the PREVIOUS owner" How come no current owners have never dropped their bike??
On subject tho', the OP has bought a lemon. I know of a few GV owners who have had a fantastic trouble free run from this model.

This
Sounds like it needs an owner that can fix it themselves, rather than continually getting dealers/mechanics to do it. No offense to OP.
Pity there's so many problems with a 4 year old bike...

Not sure why Hyos seem so popular amongst newer riders - there are so many decent makes available for similar prices. I would get rid of it quick smart - prob trade it on a decent bike and take the loss as a life lesson. Not worth continuously chasing one prob after another.

You seem to be able to get a pretty recent 2nd hand bike for not much cash. I am sure there are bikes out there in a similar price range (2k-3k) which haven't been ridden to hell and aren't as old as the dinosaurs but they seem hard to come by. The Hyosungs seem to be good value, if you get a decent one.

Except... they are Hyosungs. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. I would rather buy a good second hand Suzuki / Honda / Yammy than a brand new Hyo. Maybe Im a brand snob...

Well if you buy parts out the Hysoung place in aussie, parts are very cheap. I need a few bits for ours so will be doing so. Once going I may even give it thrashing round Hampton Downs.

Get a new auto electrician. Anyone who tests a system that fucking simple and can't figure it out, is a spoon.
Hyobag stators and reg/recs are common enough and not very expensive, so replace them and ride it.

A lot of time? Takes less than five minutes to check a stator.

This is the stuff you expect from a 30 year old bike which has sat for half the time, not a 4 year old one.
Replace the stator - join a forum, I'll bet there will be a thread on stator replacement.
If its not running its useless to you and not worth a thing. Hyo lack in quality control; for every good story you hear a bad one or two.
Once fixed ride it and really ask yourself seriously do I want to keep going with this?
Go test ride an Intruder VL250 or Marauder GZ250 or something like that. Pretty sure after that you'll come to a decision. If its not a project bike and if you don't love it you know the answer.

Yeah was goiong to say that as well, even I know about this common issue with HoBags and I don't ride on the road.
