View Full Version : ZOMG: a new(ish) Honda DN-01 for only $12,000!

Its half price.- stickered at $13k but I am sure they would be so surprised to receive an offer they would "let it go" for $12k.

Is it bad of me to want it? - paint it silver and be all like that 80's TV show with the motorbike that was kind of a ripoff of KNIGHT RIDER

It would be a very difficult resell/trade if you ever wanted a real bike.

Obviously very well spec'd and a quality build but the front end cosmetics does'nt do a lot for me.

Apart from the pics i have'nt actually seen one in the flesh and for $12k+ i would'nt be buying it.

I love the features it lists on the tm ad.

Also features fuel injection, ABS braking, liquid cooling, single sided aluminium swingarm, 17 inch wheels, back swept handlebars and wide footboards.

the "features" ABS - pretty much standard. Liquid cooling - really? thats a "feature"?. Swingarm? Every bike has a swing arm! "wheels" wow! hold the phone! ima get me a bike with WHEELS!. "handlebars" Really? Really?...

Those arnt features.

I've seen one in person, and it's even uglier than in pictures.

This bike is a joke.

What it is, is a nice large capacity scooter that is capable of open road cruising.

I liked the hi-tech on it and the ease of operation would suit a noob or unskilled rider.

I rode one and enjoyed it. Then again I like most motorbikes so I'm not exactly discerning. Didn't like it enough to buy it, and I wouldn't want one for my only bike. The guys on the DN-01 owners forum seemed happy enough with theirs when I last looked.

It's only auto if you want it to be, IIRC you can change gear with your thumb?

Considering that it was such a bloody oddball thing, and the tooling costs for the engine would have been zero, the price that BlueWing put on it originally was absolutely absurd. Then again overpricing is a BlueWing specialty.

Honda don't seem to have realised that there's a problem and have bought out another somewhat similar bike. And no, I don't mean that horrendously ugly 700 bike/scooter hybrid abortion. Sad really because Honda have made some of the nicest looking bikes ever.

I know someone with enough money to buy something better and owns some flash euro cars...
He bought the Dino cause of back problems its about the only thing he can comfortable ride/use. Admit I had to google the model name when he told me what he rode afterwards....

I think the Bimota Mantra still hold the title, just. It has gears and a clutch though, so the Honda probably wins full-retard honours.

Could also be well suited to a rider with limited ability to ride a geared bike. Better than a Can-am for riding feel I would guess. And not a scooter style.

I reckon it would be a great thing for someone in that situation.

The actually look Ok in the flesh. Unfortunately another example of a really good vehicle (was wondering what to call it) that Honda thought the world needed but no one actually wanted.

Take it for a test ride - just for kicks.

I'd rather spend $12 k on the Honda than $17 k on a Burgman http://www.suzuki.co.nz/Motorcycle/Scooter/Burgman+650/

That bike and the F6B Valkyrie have to have been designed with the American market in mind. They would fit right in over there.

The F6B is a shame though, the old Valkyrie looked like a motorbike and showed the engine off to good effect. The new one looks about as much like some sort of household appliance as a bike, waste of a lovely engine. Never mind, Casey Stoner says he loves it.

What is it with Honda indeed.

...a friend has one of those big cruiser type scooter/motorcycles...his stable of machinery is fairly much that of a man who has ridden for many years and he has beautiful old Brit iron and big modern Jappy stuff to play with...he turns up a lot on the scootery thingy, 'cos he reckons apart from the non engine breaking on downhill bits, it's as much or more fun than all his other toys...whatever floats 'yer boat...men of some cultures seem to prefer women with fantastically big posteriors, so big that lots of us would run a thousand klicks to get away from them...

I think they are designing for their domestic market. Manga bikes.

I like the slammed Gold Wing too. Saw a yellow F6B the other day. I would rock that hard.

When I went up to Townsville to look at ST1100s, the local Honda shop had a second hand black DN-01 on the floor. I sat on it and it was pretty comfortable, felt a bit like a Deauville 700. But they weren't offering the DN-01 at the sort of price that is on TradeMe.

I think the attraction of it is that it has a scooter's convenience with a sizeable motor and decent sized wheels. I don't think it looked so ugly, just different.

If I won LOTTO, I'd put one in my motorcycle museum.

I was thinking of this post today and it occurred to me that if it was made by an Italian company you'd all be splitting trousers and proclaiming it to have 'character' and 'soul' and be a epic advancement in the motorcycle/scooter.

You know I'm right, yes you, hang your head in shame.

Uhhh.... No. The bimota mantra was Italian and that thing looked hideous. No one could say it was an advancement in motorcycles anyway.

My bike is Italian, and ugly, but by christ it has soul and character all right.

Spied this a while back - it started as a Mantra. The Mantra was obviously styled while on some serious drugs. Sober and a rethink made this.

Balu quite liked them but I thought for the $ the burgman (of which Balu has owned three ) gives better value and the dino had no under seat storage which the burger had tons of.

Not my cup of tea at all. I did ride the burger a few times but despite his best efforts Balu never convinced me to turn into a scoot rider. I'd still opt for the Suzuki over the Honda though.
