View Full Version : Bike has been sitting outside for 8 months

Hi guys,
My Hyo gt250r has been sitting outside for about 8 months - in a carport. I think the battery could use a trickle charge and the carbs cleaned.
Before it was stored, the bike would literally turn off when the engine was revd hard, not sure what was causing this.
What would I need to do to bring the baby back to life?

Define revved hard? 8k? Redline?
Only under load or can replicate in the driveway?
Carbed?
Any other electrical nuances? E.g headlight gets dimmer when revs reach x rpm.

it's a fucking hyo. dont waste your time.
if you haven't had your battery on trickle charge, it's no fucking use doing it now.
what's causing that shit? gay little chineses in your engine, that's what

And ...
Clean the air filter.
Drain and flush the fuel tank. Fill tank with fresh fuel.
THEN ... drain and flush the carbs.
Before it was stored, the bike would literally turn off when the engine was revd hard, not sure what was causing this.
Not getting the fuel would be my guess. Or poor quality fuel ... or shit in the fuel tank blocking the filter in the tank.
What would I need to do to bring the baby back to life?
If the above wont fix the problems .. let it die. Sell it and buy a Yamaha.

Haha it's good to be back and know you cunts haven't changed a bit. Yes its a Hyobag - I like the hyobag - why? it's my first bike.
I'm not very mechanically minded - only under load does she turn off - not sure what's causing it - I'm guessing I'm also going to need a new battery. How do I drain the fuel?

also - is it possible the kickstand switch is causing the issue of it turning off in high revs?

I like this fucker.
Doubt it will be the kickstand switch. Best way to drain it would be to take the tank off and make sure you get it all out. And undo the drain screw on the bottom of the carb.

So why did you leave it 8 months? Administer yourself swift upper cut.

Dealt with a few of little bikes and had similar issues. Check the relays under the seat. There is a master relay. This can get a bad connection if it comes out of its base slightly. Vibration can cause the fecker to open close the relay causing the bike to stop intermitently. Simple fix is to wrap a zip tie around it to hold it securely to the base. Give that a go see how ya go eh.

...I borrowed an '73 A50 Suzuki in '82 when I returned from o/seas to visit my dad who was crook, just to get around my little town, returning it to behind my friends house, leaning on the fence, when I was going back...I came back again in '86, another visit...my friend had sold the house where the A50 had lived...when I asked if the A50 was still a runner, my friend looked bemused and said,' I forgot I ever owned it, haven't seen it in years'.
He had no idea of what happened to it after I had leaned it back on the fence...a few weeks later I had reason to be visiting the house next door to my friends ex-house. A row of shrubby bushes had grown along the fenceline, and when I went and had a closer look, the A50 was right in the middle of this untidy straggly bush...I talked to the new owner about 'our bike', being left in his bush and he agreed I should cut it out and retrieve it...an hour later with only a fresh tank of gas and a spark plug check, I rolled it down the steep drive, it fired up and after a few moments of warming it up, I was off...
...it ended up travelling from Lyttelton to Rotorua (didn't quite make Dorkland as planned) with my mad brit bro in law on it...his backpack looked bigger than the bike...

Right you bastards, I've tried to turn the key today. Dash lights up fine - that's about it. Turning the key makes no sound what so ever - no clicking nothing... what's wrong with the poor lass.
She's received a good cuddle and an I'm sorry. Just like your first kiss - even if it was a fat chick with freckles - you never forget your first bike. Also, not mechanically minded so all suggestions are sounding like it's out of my scope. Who has a weekend and would take payment in bro hugs or real money to help a brother out?
She got left in the garage because I became a dad and dedicated my time to helping with the bubs rather than riding... Bubs is 7 months now and seeing as it's my only mode of transport (have just gotten rid of second car) - I need to get her up and running.

I say damned if you do damned if you don't.
Same day and we have a hyobag owner saying he left his bike in carport 8 months and it wasn't stolen. A Ninja owner had his stolen before getting a chance to buy insurance.

Is this a joke? You haven't charged/changed the battery yet, what did you expect to happen?

No joke - expected at least a click from the relay - should I try jumpstarting with a car?

Do all your lights and shit work? If so I would suspect the starting system, if not battery is fuckered. Get a new one you cheap coont.:brick::brick:

Rock it in gear, give it a whirl, (after charging) and then push start before you decide to take to it with jumper leads. Those little bikes are easy as to push start on the flat. If you live on a hill, ever better. If it's steep it will give plenty of motivation to check everything well first so you don't have to push it back up :niceone:

Your second bike will (usually) be better ...
Not likely. Second is usually a heap-of-shit that you buy for a box of beer and the broken remains of the first bike.
That is if you are a real biker.

If the lights come on and all - check the solenoid .. do Hoysungs have them?
Make sure al the leads from the battery to the solenoid are clean at both ends - battery and solenoid. Sometimes they can be corroded and that mucks up the connections .. clean them all and if it still does not start, take the solenoid off and have it checked - you might need a new one.

Thank you all! She's up and running, took off the fuel tank - drained all the fuel out. Went and bought her a new battery - installed battery, popped fuel tank on and put in fresh fuel. Turned her over and vroom vroom - now inspecting side stand switch for issue #2.
Thank you you bastards!

This is going to sound really strange, when I was a complete squid and couldn't even change the oil on my bike - you invited me over to your garage and basically took care of the whole thing.
This might not mean much - but thank you for the time you took to help me out - I will do whatever I can to pass it on - you're a legend :)
