Operation Austrans is an annual initiative in which police in Australia and New Zealand target heavy-vehicle road-safety issues, including fatigue, speed and drug use. About 7pm today (Wednesday 28 May 2014), Joint Heavy Vehicle Taskforce Officers intercepted a Victorian Registered b double truck southbound on the Newell Highway, Moree, at the Roads and Maritime Service Heavy Vehicle Safety Station

It can't be a joint Australia/NZ police action, no two Aussie states can agree on their laws and road rules, there'll never be an Australian wide traffic operation. That's just someone in NSW thinking that Australia stops at the NSW borders - bit like JAFAs really.

They did it on both sides of the ditch last year so I'm going to go with you're incorrect again.

Ok 100% agree on that angle. Obviously just a big propaganda exercise for the gullible... maybe part of the bigger picture to slowly normalize the idea of nz aus merging into one country...

Did anyone else catch the announcement of ANPR cameras in our patrol cars?
Chuckled when the announcer stated "For safety related offences, like un-registered vehicles". No WoF would = safety related. No rego is taxation related.

No but they let slip in few recent episodes of Highway Patrol on tv1 that was filmed at least 6 months ago...
Really I don't know what's taken them so long, it's already a well proven technology elsewhere in the world. Funny you mention as today I was wondering what happened to the mobile CCTV van that had ANPR on it as well...
Hopefully it will make it harder for car thieves and other crooks...

This was on Te News, not the highway patrol programme (don't bother watching that nowadays).

You're well late, teh ANPR vans have "SAFETY CAMERA" labels for Africa.
Wonder if we could get related convictions slung out on their arse 'cause no safety issues were compromised by said offences.

...would this have anything to do with a cop in a red mufti holden who has been lurking on SH75 for a while now...the local cop told someone in town that this officer has the authority to dismantle your vehicle on apprehension, in the search for non compliance or safety related reasons...?...I thought the cops could do whatever they liked in this country whether it was right or wrong...it certainly seems so at times...

On more than one occasion I've accepted the ticket then while driving away screwed it up and tossed it.
A month later the reminder arrives; time to pay up. Denial is a wonderful thing, it gives us time to get used to unpalatable ideas.
Just once there was this golden instance when the reminder never came, I never heard any more about it. Still makes me smile.
