Hi guys. I have fj1200 with mesh pod filters. Can you recommend a mechanic to adjust the carbs to suit the pods?
Needs to be not too busy and expensive. Thanks a lot

FJ1200 has CV carbs. The airbox is an integral part of them working properly. The springs on top of the slides often needs to be replaced if you put pods on.

dynojet usually make kits for branded pod filters, springs as drewpy mentioned and correct size drill bits for the areas that need a bit of mods

I was surprised that the dynojet kit for my gixxer didn't come with slide springs. But I'll chuck it in and see what happens.

Buy the kit.
Given you're tweaking your intake system I'd be more interested in a mechanic who knows his/her stuff rather than what they will charge. I presume you've played with the exhaust too.

I still don't get these KB posts where people are wanting 'the best mechanic' but don't want to pay for their skills.
It's a bit like going to the worlds best prostitute (do they have a award for this?) and asking to pay street-walker prices. Chances are she will offer you a armpit to fuck for your money. To be fair a hairy armpit, if sweaty, can resemble a girls bit and has the benefit of being able to be tighten as required by adding pressure to her arm.

Mate, do it yourself...
Jetting things is a dick of a job, don't expect it to be cheap, or easy, or quick, or done right, or cheap.

Got a Factory Pro kit for mine that reckoned the springs just needed stretching and baking; did the trick too :woohoo:

I do not think many GOOD mechanics would be fooled by such an appeal.
Funny as fuck really though, I bet if you asked most of these types of posters to offer their services at discounted rates, they would be outraged.:niceone:

True as that is Stucky, it fair gripes my gizzard when I have to pay absolute top whack for poor service. Has happened to me on the odd occasion, depending on what it is has a bearing on whether I complain or not. Frinstance, had all new pads and shoes put on my ute and had all brake fluid changed and handbrake adjusted. Picked it up, paid for it and when I got to the red light at the end of the street, pedal went to the floor. Not even tested.

Just lean out the needles a bit bro (or run it on 91 instead) - she'll be sweet as
In all seriousness - how bad are the carbs right now? You might find that you have more than 1 problem if you notice a big difference.
I rode a YZF with pods and it rode like a pig. But it was more do to with the fact that other shit was modded more than the filters.

The engineers with the skills and equipment to set up carbs should be charging like wounded bulls. This is a specialist and skilled job.
The guy I know who sets up race cars charges $120/hr and it would take him quite a few hours to do all the testing and setting necessary. If its a electronic mapping job it takes a lot less time to change the prog vs changing the jets in all 4 carbs.
It cost me $500 to get the V8 LPG motor in my landy run up the second time and I did almost all the work. There is only one mixer with only 4 adjustments. I say the second time because for the first we found that the mixer was not working properly on the idle jet. After stripping it 4 times (and a overhaull kit) I found that a small internal jet had a tiny bit of copper swarf stuck in it.
