Ok, what's the deal with the out of focus sides that seem more and more common? It's a fucking stupid waste of space, why is it on trend?

It's a fucking stupid waste of space, why is it on trend?I believe it is the new cool alternative for those who can't record video in a proper aspect ratio. So instead of black bars showing on each side it takes a small section of the video moves it to the side and blurs it. Yes it is fucking stupid.
