I've had my aplinestar tech touring jacket for about 2.5years now. Fantastic Jacket, still waterproof and for the most part it keeps me warm.
My only problem with it is the ridiculous two-way zip, which is now starting to break down the bottom.
On occasion it has decided not to latch properly and I have had my jacket fly open and some inconvenient times. (riding down the motorway for instance)
Is it worth trying to get the zip replaced or should I just struggle on and then buy myself a new jacket?

how much did the jacket cost?
Zip replacement isnt too expensive. That said, might be a good excuse to buy something new

I'm not too sure.
At the moment whenever the zipper teeth stop latching I take the the zipper with a pair of pliars which seems to help for a bit.

Replace the zip. Trying to remember the name of the place that is/was in Fitzgerald ave that does this. Stupid broken city all messed up now - there were a couple of CBD places ........
Or wait for summer and let the girls enjoy the breeze .......

Yep - that's them. There was another place in Cashel Mall too upstairs by Whitchoulls - it may not have fared well
CHCH racers will know where ----- they always have a rush of leather repairs come Spring/Summer from last seasons incidents ....
Hmmmm reminds me my leather pants need a new zip, mind you the safety pin has held the zip together for two years - don't recommend it though as if I come off and the pin opens I could end up with a extra body piercing in a place I don't want one :(

My Alpinestars jacket does the same. I have to hold the jacket together and slightly overlap it for the zip to catch and actually connect – otherwise it does what you describe.
I told myself I wouldn't by Astars gear again but they really do make the best looking textile gear imo. All the other companies just seem to love chucking pockets on the front of all their bloody jackets. Not a fan.
But like others have said, just replace the zip.

Yea, I quite like the Astars Gear, I just think they failed miserably with the zip on this one.

Just had a zip replaced on a jacket - $90, so worth it I would think. You can't buy a decent jacket for that price.

90! Holy crap! Lady up the road charged me a few blocks of chocolate
I haven't used it but I vaguely remember walking past a place in Riccarton mall that did alterations and the like?

Hmmm, well a zip replacement certainly sounds like a fantastic idea right now.
From what my mate was telling me, it sounded like it was going to cost me a lot more than I was willing to pay.

I think $80 would be pretty common for most of Auckland. I was expecting to pay that much for mine.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's cheaper outside of jafa land.
