Have any of you had a problem with second gear when under revs or hard acceleration it will jump into neutral or sound like you are grating gears?

not a owner but have you checked your clutch? sounds like it could be abit dead.

make sure you are positive in your gear change, from first to second i assume is where the problem is occuring and this is where you have to *cross* neutral, just be a little more certain of that change and it should be sweet.

I have/had the gear box upside down so when upchanging just apply some pressure to the lever and a slight roll off the throttle will have it snick in to the next gear without the need for clutch( when going hard near the top of the rev range).

Nothing to do with the clutch absolutely.

Now this may sound silly but if your gear lever is at a funny angle like fairly high you may simply just not be regularly lifting your foot high enough or it may rub against the case slightly to prevent full travel. Make sure the lever bites onto the spline tight.

It can help as a technique to load the lever with your foot, not touch the clutch & cut the throttle; once the load is removed it will change.

The change from 1-2nd is the longest physically as the shift star has to travel over the neutral position. Esp if the lever is rubbing against something. Sometimes a weak detent spring (which rides the wheel on the star) will exacerbate the problem.

If there is damage to the gears then the places to look are the engaging fingers that mesh into the slots of the gears. They may be a bit rounded or angled. The problem is this damage will tend to push the gear back out rather than engaging.

another thing that is easy to do on the cbr is to flip the gearbox, one up five down if you get what i mean, this means you are pushing down for upchanges which could help your problem, only takes a week to get used to then becomes second nature again.

I have the same problem when changing up without using the clutch, I've resorted to always using the clutch when changing into second and haven't had the problem since
