View Full Version : Fork outer tube cracks?

Hi all,
I have just bought an early 90's WR200, and the outer tubes of both front forks seem to have cracks or separation of some sort on them.

The still seem to work fine, there is no oil leaking or anything from them. It almost seems like it is just an outer layer of metal that has cracks, rather than a crack all the way into the tube?

What can I do to fix them? Is it just cosmetic, or are they buggered?

I thought stanchions were the chrome tube? Yamaha parts lists the part with the cracks as the outer tube.

Any ideas how I can fix these, or do I need to buy new forks?

Oh not cool. New forks needed by the looks. I wouldn't run that. I bet its had a big hit.

youd be right. And yes. You could weld repair if your man knew his shit, but safer to replace.
Hold a straight edge up the other side of the choob, just for lulz.

Sight unseen it is likely stress corrosion cracking. Replacement is the only option, if you value your personal safety
