If you have some Continental tires on your motorcycle, you might want to take note of the latest recall to hit our newswires. Affecting 170,000 tires worldwide, Continental says the recall is because some tires have had the tread and belt separate, which could result in the loss of air, and thus cause a crash.

The recall only affects the following tires, of which only 9,000 or so are in Canada and the United States:

120/70ZR17 M/C (58W) TL ContiSportAttack
120/70ZR17 M/C (58W) TL ContiSportAttack 2
120/70R17 M/C 58H TL ContiAttack SM
120/70ZR17 M/C 58W TL ContiRaceAttack Comp
120/70ZR17 M/C 58W TL ContiRaceAttack Comp (Soft)
120/70ZR17 M/C (58W) TL ContiRaceAttack Comp (Medium)
120/70ZR17 M/C (58W) TL ContiRoadAttack 2 GTW (Endurance)

Continental says that owners should check the last four digits on the DOT serial number, which are stamped on each tire’s sidewall. “Tires between 1907 (19th week of 2007) and 2614 (26th week of 2014) are covered by this voluntary safety recall. No other tire sizes, production periods or product lines are affected.”

Concerned tire owners are encouraged to contact Continental via the company’s website.

Be brilliant if your tyres were 85% worn - free new ones!!!!!

Hmmmmm Bet there is not enough stock in NZ to offer replacements.

170,000 is a big number, but that's a seven year time frame so only a small number > a year or two are likely to still be out there, and most likely only a very very very small number of those will cash in. For the more recent production years let say 10% come back so < 5,000.
