looking at getting a 12-oclock board for the DRC tail tidy -- I like the flash brake light feature --- my question is can you run this legally without dedicated rear turn signals in NZ?
you have to watch the video to make sense of the question - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=looiUvXdWJI

Purely my opinion.
I don't think motorists here would know the indicator was going under braking.
And I'm fairly sure the pulsing brake light thingy is against the rules.
Just my thoughts. Don't really like it. Too much about form, sacrificing too much function.

For indicators, amongst other things, you have sight angles:
A retrofitted mandatory lamp must emit a light that is visible within angles of:
a) 15˚ above and below the horizontal, and
b) 45˚ inboard, and
c) 80˚ outboard.
Not sure exactly which colour those are, but amber all round OK, white front and red rear ok. If american, (or combined), indicators must over-ride stop lamp.

On a personal level, I had a combined unit on a previous bike. Most mates commented the LED setup was hard to see in bright daylight, so separate units are my preference.
As for stop lamps, no, flashing is not legal:
11. A stop lamp must emit a steady light.

Don't like integrated turn signals. Indicators and tail lights on bikes are barely visible at the best of times. Making them harder to see is just plain stupid. Right up there with those knobs that tint their headlight lenses.
But brake light flash on activation would greatly enhance visibility I'd say.

You'll need separate indicators to meet the sight angle requirements. Depending on the unit, you may even fail the sight angle requirements for stop and tail lights.
The R1 had a LED tail light when I bought it but you couldn't see the LEDs off axis. So I've refitted the original.

No thanks on one in vid, really your expecting a bit much from cagers to understand that one.
Even to my eye it doesn't look like a very clear signal of your intentions, remember most motorists driving on instinct rather than thinking for themselves.
Also a bit too identifiable should you be *555d or cut off some p smoking gorilla...
