My friend just picked up his new KTM950 supermoto yesterday (the only one in the country). He had to wait a couple of weeks for the media to have their time with the beast.
He was kind enough (or is that stupid?) to let me take it for a squirt. All I have to say is "WOW". The power is amazing, not to aggressive but plenty of it. It handles very well for a bike of it's size. All I have to do now is convince him to let me take it over the Rimutaka hill. Here's hoping! :yes:
I suggest you get to your nearest KTM dealer and put your name down for a test ride. You won't regret it. :Punk:

They're bloody awesome, and I've only ridden an 80
Looks like I'll be upgrading to a 450 motard soon

Not strictly a motard in the true sense though....

Yeah like people say mine isnt a motard either.....
I read about these in the latest superbike. Better than a motard on the road as it is more road based. Comfy seat, Shite hot radial brembos etc. very nice.

Ok, so what would be classed as a true motard?

This, in my opinion.

But a true motard don't run slicks - the tracks have dirt and sealed corners,so they use treaded tyres.....so does a street one.

my idea of a motard is an off roader bike, set up to run on road. Be it the new Pegaso, KTM, TDR or a modded CR500. Offroad tyres swapped for road tyres, better, larger brakes and kick ass attitude.

Here's some specs for ya:
Power: 100Hp with twin Akrapovic exhaust system (90Hp stock)
Weight: 185kg
Max Speed: 230km/h
Price: $17,995 (guesstimate)
It felt more like a road bike with an offroad bike seating position (which I find more comfortable). The engine is based on the KTM 950 Adventure engine.
A true motard is a motocross bike with 17" road wheels and a larger front brake.
The first pic is my KTM350RFS which is a true motard. (Stolen in April of this year fuckers!)
The next pic is Thierry Van Den Bosch's S1 Class factory motard.

Not necessarily. Supermoto and Supermotard are slightly different. Supermoto refers to both dirt and seal and Super Motard covers just seal, i.e. race track. A true Motard runs slicks as the races take place on seal only. Super Moto has a mix of surfaces.
so does a street one.
Surely a street moto/motard runs treaded tyres on the road as slicks are illegal for road use.

It ain't the only one. We've got one at AMPS. The word is that it's a wheely monster but softer than the Superduke. The carbs make it nicer in traffic, but it loses the snap of the Duke. But there's no way it's good for 230 k's.

Actually...
Supermoto=Bike
Supermotard=Rider
Traditionally the tracks are 30% dirt and 70% seal and around a minute per lap with a top speed of around 160kph.
Slicks/wets/inters/cut slicks.
Whatever works.

I agree with you mate. these purpose built bikes ain't as fun as a motard MX bike. an built up MX bike makes a better Motard in my opinion.
