I'm looking for some advice, mostly legal, about organising a charity trail ride.

Friends who moved to Christchurch to assist with the rebuild have recently discovered that there 3 yr old daughter has a very rare form of Cervical Cancer and is currently under going chemo.

These kinds of unexpected challenges are obviously pretty distressing mentally and financially.

So I thought that organising a charity trail ride could be good way to get a few like minded bikers together, show some community support and hopefully raise a few $$ for a family in need.

I was thinking of doing the route discribed in this thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/119869-Locked-gate-Dalethorpe-Road-and-Bell-Hill-Road?highlight=dalethorpe) I started in 2010 but hadn't done anything about due to living overseas. Kill two birds with one stone kinda thing.

Q1. What legal obligations/legal stuff would I need to sort and how to get around them.
Q2. What sort of donation would be acceptable.
Q3. Other ideas on creating revenue from the event

Cheers

You need to get this moved to a more open forum to get the oil on this sort of thing. There are many people that have organised charity rides with great success. PM a mod, or with any luck someone will pick up on the thread and move it for you.

Best of luck too! What an horrendous thing for that family.

We put together a Charity Ride in 2011 for the Christchurch Earthquake. Two rides held on the day, one here in Auckland and one in Wellington. We had 107 people registered for the Auckland ride and 300 bikes turned out on the day. The two rides collectively raised $5337.

You can do it by yourself or get a handful of mates to help nut it out, three or four minds working on an idea are better than one in my experience.

Get support behind you ie: Bike Shops generally lap this stuff up and can offer up spot prizes/premises to use/b-bq etc.
No legal obligations as such, it's all donations and you are simply providing an idea/venue.
You'll find that everyone who attends will be on their best behaviour because of the nature of what you are doing.
Get a bank account number up on here so people can donate, and they will.
