Here's my 1990 Vmax project. It was due for a birthday anyway and it so happened that I was basically gifted a busted engine from another Vmax. There's nothing wrong with the motor from this bike and I didn't really feel like hacking it up so it's now sitting in the corner.
To cut a long story short I've built a motor from half a Vmax and half an XVZ1300 from ebay that was partly broken with 3000 miles on it. Bottom case is Vmax but top case is XVZ1300 so that brings it to 1300cc. A millimeter off the deck height, re-profiled cams with homemade valve shims to suit. All vmax top end, trans and oil pump. Made a hybrid setup to use the original Vmax f/wheel and stator winding. Engine covers are part vmax , part XVZ . Machined the engine cases and made the drive sprocket, rear sprocket, axle swingarm , brake carrier and anything else that had to be machined etc.
Goes like a rocket.

Did you finally get the XV chopper finished ? we'd talked on viragotech way back...

i like what you've done to the max - I've got a pre82 roadrace customer who'd like to do the same to an XS triple...but there's even less room.

Yes I did but I haven't done a cert yet to put it on the road. It all works well, I'll put a recent picture up soon.

Doing chain and sprockets is going to take time.

Good stuff. So does it go better than a standard V-Max?

I have two. The other isn't stock either, Kerker full exhaust, stage 7 jet kit ( jets, diaphragm springs, air correctors, pods etc) V-boost at 3k and it is somewhat quicker than stock.

This one is 1300cc, higher compression, cams, Voodoo exhaust , stage 7 3k V-boost and the chain drive. It pulls much harder than the other one.

The chain drive obviously is less of a loss of power being robbed by a shaft drive with spiral bevel and benefits with a weight reduction also but it would be a combination of all the mods that have given the extra grunt that it has.

GP Engineering in Nelson was chain-driving a V-Max a while ago. For drag-racing apparently...
