Once again a member of our highway tax collecting agency has shown not all are good sorts....
Coming home from the Cold kiwi last weekend we were just leaving a town on the way home, there was about 7 of us,we were all still fairly close together, and not going that fast.
Two guys in front of draco, myself following and the others behind.
Come over a hill doing under 110,a copper was just turning around on a side road, bugger I think he's got one of the lads(who have split by then)....but he pulls out infront of me and proceeds to stop draco????so I pull over too to see whassup, wait aside for a few minutes (enough to see draco getting pissed off)then wander over to see what's happening. He says she was going 117kph,do you wanna see?So I had a look, not right I'm thinking....How do we know this was her and not one of the guys in front?I ask. There was no one in front he says.(what???)There was I said,I know them.Oh,he says they were over 200 m in front.(not!)
I then leave before I get pissed and get draco and myself some more tax forms.

I'm pretty pissed about this because I'm sure I'm right, and one of the other guys said he put his lights on when he came past them.......almost confirms it I think.

One other q though, does the radar still give a 'live' reading after it's locked?

We're gonna fight it,but I don't think we'll win cause it's a cops word against ours, and I can't really get the other guys to testify.....

Mate if you take it to court and you should loose the case....
Then please add on another $150 to the fine as that is Court costs.

Buggar about being nabbed...
Good luck Draco in fighting it.

How much is the fine? any demerit points lost?
Maybe the guys that you were with on the day, could all throw in some money to help pay for it... just a suggestion..

Bugger -

Yeah unfortunately there will always be Cowboys out there, who are in it to ping people for money and make themselves feel good, and not to keep the roads safe.

Every cop ive met has been really good - bad luck dude, but good luck in the fight.

Your friend is screwed. The system is such that, by being accused, he is guilty. The cops are taken as expert witnesses" and "always honest". Been there, paid that tax invoice. The only chance of winning would be to take it to the court of appeal once he has been found guilty. Allow $30k and a year or so...
And the cops wonder why people don't like them any more? A few bad eggs like this spoil However, if they won't clean up their mess themselves, they cannot complain.
In a real criminal charge, the police would have to provide evidence. This is optional in speeding charges.IMO, there is a strong case for requiring video cameras connected to the radar system, as used overseas. It would answer the question very quickly in this case. It won't happen, as there is no positive side for the IRD (er police) in this case. THere is the cost of the equipment, and having to provide evidence will increase the processing costs (ie business overhead) and reduce the income (ie sales revenue) as more people get off false charges.

it is with the greatest sympathy i say, dnt blame the police in general. in my experiance the police in general are a group of really good guys with one of the worst jobs around. they deserve our respect. BUT in saying that... Highway patrol often are the complete oppisite, they do bugger all to keep the roads safe, just a revenue gathering department of the police. Guess what im tryn to say is.. Dont judge the whole NZ police force by the handfull of prick highway patrol officereon the road.
Just my humble opinion.

FUCKEN PIGS , ITS SAFER FOR THEM TO GIVE OUT SPEEDING TICKETS THAN CATCH REAL CRIMS, SOME ONE SOMEWHERE WAS BEING ROBBED ,ASSAULTED OR IN NEED OF HELP AND THIS MOTHERFUCKER COP IS NOT HELPING THEM.
IT WOULD BE MORE THAN LIKELY THE COP RADARED THE PEOPLE IN FRONT BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO, RUNNERS NEXT TIME

Bummer. Not a way to end the weekend. Was that on SH39? My mate got hit there on the way home as well. Fortunately for me I was 2k back and the radar detector went right off.

If you can't get anyone to testify on your behalf, save your money. You wont win.

Yep it keeps on reading. Its really easy to pick out individual speeds, even amongst grouped up bikes, just by using the tone/visual and knowing how the beam works. But targetting a biker travelling in a group like that (unless of the patch wearing variety) is just petty regardless of whether there speed had slipped a wee bit high.

BTW Winja, is this guy a relative of yours?

What a shit.

A perfect example of why the kinds of radar used in NZ cop cars were banned for use by UK cops in the early 1990s.

How the hell can you prove which target the radar locked onto?

How many H.P. read this forum? would be a good way to get their Nose Brown on a Monday morning after the Boss gives them a reach around, because of the good work done on the publicized routes rode by bikers over the weekend.

Death... mate i can agree with what your saying. one thing that has always got me wondering is their is no way that you could ever prove that the speed on the gun is yours... whats stopping them from catching one person at what ever speed and then pulling over someone else for the crime!!!

They are only apeasing Clark and Cullens wishes, if you dont like it vote accordingly. We didnt have this level of policing 6 years ago. Do something about it !

Yeh,I tend to agree.
We'll prolly fight it,just to make the bastard actually earn it (it's a principal thing,I've been done in the past on bs cop stories)even though it's not a big fine, $120 or so.
And I don't think of the whole force as arseholes,I have met a few good ones, but I've been unfortunate enough to have been on the wrong side of a few wankers too.I can except legitimate fines(I've prolly bought one of the patrol cars for 'em over the years),just not fairy tale ones.....

radar is nto accurate if pointed at a group, it cannot pinpoint one person.

The current police force is in chaos.

Why is the minister of police and the commissioner still employed? Time for them to go !

Only then can there be any changes and restructuring in the police department.

Defend it. You don't need a lawyer, just both go in and have your say. Even if convicted you may not end up paying more and it'll keep an IRD man off the road for a day, and he'll have the knowledge of lying under oath. Not that that worries many of them.
It's damn near a public duty to defend it.

It won't 'tangle-up the system' and if only we all knew who 'they' WERE!!

In my freezing works day many a rumour started off "they say" - the works was closing early, there was going to be a 'short day' due to lack of water etc etc .
We eventually figured 'they' must have been the sea-gulls on the roof since the information seemed bird-brained and was rarely true, maybe THAT is who we should target - the sea-gulls!!! tangle THEM up!! :weird:

Police are reportedly a cross-section of society - and we all know how much THEY lie :motu: :motu:

But cops aren't supposed to. At least not under oath.
You're the good guys, protecting and serving and all that stuff.
(Where's that bloody Lou smilie Spank?)

BTW. Aren't your recruiters taking the cross-section of society thing a bit far?
Recruits with NCIB flags on their history is a bit much. Not to mention the video clip of a recruitment meeting that looked like a bloody United Nations meeting. Wait till that lot get in, your replacement vehicle budget will go through the roof. :devil2:

And neither do upstanding productive members of society like yourself right?

And when someone called the pigs (cos that's what they are to people like that), what did I do? I wasted a truckload of police time, making sure they got all their paperwork right, giving them the runaround, and sometimes they had enough to ping me, sometimes they didn't. Every time I plead poverty, and paid it off at less than f*** all each week. And of the 27 months I've spent disqualified in my life, you take an educated guess at exactly how many days I didn't drive for... And when they stop you and you're disq, two things happen - either you stop and give your mates details (cos your car is always registered to a person of the opposite sex who you claim rightly or wrongly to be your g/f or b/f and you've left your wallet in your car), or if you're doing something that will get you a ticket you do a runner
