WTB - Project bike A50/ A100 or similar - first bike project

Hi there
Im 39, father of two, blah blah , and want to get into riding motorcycles. I have an Fa50 I have been tinkering with and riding, which was fun, but it is time to move up a step.
Im not loaded but I am happy to learn/ work on something.

What I am asking for is a CHEAP small bike to
a) Learn a bit about mechanical stuff
b) Learn how to ride/ get my licence on

Im in chch, but am happy to travel timaru / kaikoura to pick up a bike.

Of course I will post a project thread as I go

If you're enjoying that scooter so much I'd say you want an old GN125/250 or other brands equivalent. If you really enjoy tinkering you can pick up a 150 2 stroke cheap enough. Plenty of em needing rebuilds pop up.

Yeah I think that would be ideal..
Although something I could convert to a cafe racer long term would rule
