Hey all,

Was over inspecting my mates brand spanking new scooter (some Yamaha beast) because of what apparently is the indicator relay box thingie clicking over every 2ish seconds when the scoot is on (doesn't do it when it's off). We disassembled the offender and found a wire that appreared to be damaged (plastic splinter right through it) and when wiggled in a certain way it appeared to stop the clicking. We snipped it down & re-soldered it and it's still doing it.

I'm wondering if this has ever been a standard feature or the relay? is definitley a problem. Indicators work just fine btw.

It's probably fucked.

And seeing as it's a Yamahahaha, I'm probably right.

It might not be the flasher relay. Turn your indicators on and make sure that its that relay that clicks.

ok now this may sound silly.... but has one of the indicator bulbs blown...?
The reason I ask is that on some cars, if one bulb is blown the other indicators flash faster than normal...

It's either the carb or the CDI,I can't decide which - replace both and get back to me....

The same unit definitely clicks when the indicators are going away, all 4 indicators are working.

Were the brakes on?

Many scooters have their indicators flash when the brakes are on. NZ might have got those wires cut because we're not allowed to make ourselves so highly visible when braking.

So you are not meant to get a ticking noise right? Have you tried to get hold of another "indicator box thingie"

sounds like there is a short or a wiring error somewhere. If it is clicking at a 2 sec period there must be a load on it similar to the 40 odd watts the bulbs provide.
:hitcher: The reason that the indicators flash fast when one bulb is dead is that the circuit uses the resistance of the bulb as part of the timing, it's a RC circuit.
