View Full Version : Otago: Dunedin rides

Virago
10th September 2005, 22:36
Just gauging what interest there is in Dunedin area KB organised weekend rides.

Some suggested destinations: Middlemarch, or Lawrence, or perhaps south to Scumdog country.

Scumdog is keen to participate, work permitting. He's got next weekend off.

Work commitments are a hassle for me, I'd prefer not to be more than one hour from town.

So who's up for it? Suggestions regarding preferred days, preferred length of rides, and preferred ride speed would be appreciated.

Weather permitting, we could organise something for next Sunday (day after election).

I'll be in on it. As for speed, I don't take the limit as just a polite suggestion

Hmm, as I HAVE indeed got the weekend off a ride to lawrence etc could be a good thing, :woohoo: ,
At the moment (yet to consult with SheWhoKeepsMyLifeInOrder) I don't think I have any prior commitments.

(Could even put a BBQ on at Chez Scumdog if anybody cared?)

A good call - and I'm sure Scumdog would never go over the speed limit either!

Personally, I like a nice cruisy ride with a good mix of straights and twisties, so a run through to Lawrence would be nice, and that detour on the way back to Scumdog's place sounds tempting..... .

Hope the weather next weekend is as good as this one.

C.B. got home from work today, pushed the Sporty out of the gargre, grabbed my helmet and gloves and said 'we're off for a ride, the day is just TOO nice to waste".
As I was busy sanding the floor of her Fairlane a ride seemed like a better option so of to Pounawea we went, nice road with some twisty/hilly bits - magic weather, magic ride and magic wife eh?

(bit of thread piracy but hey, couldn't resist).

Bugger,

Just consulted with my own "SheWhoKeepsMyLifeInOrder", and we have family commitments again on Sunday. How about Saturday?

scumdog
12th September 2005, 23:22
O.K., Saturday is good, are you staying or heading home?
Any of you othe Dunners KBers want to come?

Sounds like lots of fun

What time would we leave dunners?

Virago
14th September 2005, 08:48
Okay, outlook for Saturday at this stage is showery. Personally I'd rather postpone if it's wet, but I'll go with the consensus on that.

I suggest meeting at 11.00, giving time in the morning for VOTING.

Perhaps meet at BP Connect Southern on Cumberland St South, for introductions, then on the road at 11.15. Re-group at Milton at 12.00 (and pick up Scumdog), then on to Lawrence.

From there everyone could do what they like, heading home, or taking a detour south to Scumdog's place to take advantage of his kind offer of a barbeque.

I'll have a pillion, Mrs V is keen for the ride.

We'll need to be home late on Saturday for family commitments on Sunday.

This sounds like a great plan, about what I was going to suggest.
Does anybody have a chill-bag we can use to put steaks in or should I try and nick one from work?

OK, I'll meet up with everyone in Lawrence around 12:30, then continue on to SDs in Balclutha.

Our latest weather predictionfor mid-day Saturday is for cool, overcast weather with only a small chance of rain. However IF it does rain then there is a 50% chance of snow on the hills.

We have one of those silver chill bags with lots of good old-fashioned slikka-pads, which will fit in our bike pack. Should keep perishables okay until we get to Scumdog's place.

So far sounds O.K. by me, how does a rendezvous at the Clarkesville Junction sound? (Where SH1 and SH8 meet).

Then off up to Lawrence to meet Jantar, have a cuppa or whatever and then head to Chez Scumdog for BBQ.

Any alterations/additions??

Could I throw in a bunch of steak from the butcher in there?

Weather permitting, We could show the Dunedin riders a real motorcycle road by going via Tuapeka West :ride: , or would you prefer via Beaumont?

Hmm, had similar thoughts myself and tended to lean towards the Tuepeka West road - mainly because the Beaumont road is my 'main' one to Central and I'm over familiar with it.

Pretty impresive figures Jantar, but to the layman does it mean the Manuka Gorge will be wet'n'slippery and will Chez Scumdog be a dry BBQ venue?? :spudwhat:

I fired up the RE5 this afternoon, the first time since March. I'm ashamed to say that it is in bad need of a clean and polish, and the motor needs a good run followed by a tune up.

I've booked it in for its WOF tomorrow, and if all is good, I may bring it along instead of the GS. I just hope I wont get too much of a ribbing from you guys for bringing along a bike that isn't 100% prepared. But it does need a run before its tune and service and this would be a perfect time. :ride:

ScumDog, what can I bring towards the BBQ?

BRING IT! bring it! Bring the RE5, I want a pic of it in the driveway of Chez Scumdog!

Only need to bring thyself but if you insist you could bring a few nibbles - salted pea-nuts/cashew nuts/chips etc etc - only if you want - but it all helps eh?.

How about joining the Otago contingent of Kbers for the ride up to the Magpie Madness rally at Winchester on November 19th or thereabouts?
