Hi all, so junior has just traded up from a CRF50 to a KLX110 and then plan is to get him into trail riding. The boy is 8 years old, has spent a few evenings at the Kapi Mana MX Club since he got his Honda at Christmas and some time down at the river bank.
Are there any kid/learner trails in the Wellington area (incl Kapiti & Wairarapa)? Dad will be following behind on a 250 (resurrecting his adventure riding days).
I've got the Trail Riding Map for the Akatarawa's off the GWRC website - are there any particularly soft/kid friendly trails in there?
Anywhere else?
Thanks in advance.

Have you had a look at http://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/gps-tracks-rides/north-island-tracks/ some are public road or a bit on the rugged side for the young fellow but they have a rating so if you find a beginner track you should be fine,
i haven't done may so can't help with what tracks would suite

Anyone...?
Yeah Brooklyn track would be good for you
Go up to the windmill in Brooklyn, back of the carpark there is a steel gate. Ring the guy's cellphone no on the gate, he opens it remotely. Ya go down the road, right at the ostrich (no I am not making this up) and down towards the drift track. There's an honesty box where you pay $20 per bike. Down the dip and up to the drift track, either park there and go or go along Long Gully and up to the right and park up by the MX track. You can ride the track, the farm tracks, nip up to the radome/golfball thingy or lean the bikes under the gate at the south end and go down to the South Coast.
I believe it is closed in the wet and the MX track and general area is not as much fun IMO on a windy day cos the ridge tracks are all pretty exposed.

There is a kids track in Wainui too, but it's not as 'kiddy friendly' as it was made out to be to us. My 6yo hated it haha
I thought it was fun though!
Brooklyn is interesting on a good day and you can ride the farm, head to the beach or go wherever so you aren't limited to the track only. It's all relatively easy stuff up there. Nothing too epic.
If you check out silver-bullet and go along to the trail rides, you will find especially any Horowhenua MCC event will have an awesome kids track, but most of the main B trails are pretty rideable and good fun!
Don't take him up any A loops and you'll be right!
