View Full Version : Danmoto stainless steel Conical GP exhaust

Unlike most people I actually enjoy my i4 engine with its stock exhaust. Still, at something like $160 landed I couldn't resist giving the Danmoto pipe a go. The quality of the product itself is surprisingly good - the muffler is very light but well made, with nice welds. I wouldn't waste my money on their carbon exhausts, but the stainless gear is nice. Only thing is I'll have a bracket welded on so I don't have to use the ugly strap system.
The pipe looks the nuts - so much better than the oversized stainless original. Still, I doubt I'll keep it on, it's just too loud even with the baffle.

Heard similar about their gear before. Perhaps try a db-killer type insert in the end, there will be a way to get nice looks and nice sounds...

Had a Danmoto carbon on my Hornet 900. Was ok. Got a lot louder as it got older. Bit of a pig to repack as well.
Was light though.

This is what the baffle I bought with it looks like:

I've been thinking about getting the carbon ones for my 900, they sound much better than stock IMO.

They are a bugger to get in line I hear but sound good.

I'm probably going to go with twin GP Extreme, or whatever they are called, pipes on my zxr600thing
Good to know they're of resonable quality
and that is way too bloody loud

The microphone on my phone doesn't tell you much about volume. Without the baffle it was comically loud. With the baffle it's still very loud.
It sounds decent - like I said, I actually like the sound of the stock pipe. The Danmoto with the baffle in sounds OK, but reminds me a little too much of the little wankers who cut the mufflers off mum's Civic. That's the risk with any i4 engine though.

I hate the look of the metal + rubber straps used to attach these things, so had a little mount welded onto it. I'll see when I get home if my instructions and markings were accurate, but it looks good. This is on the inside, obviously, so doesn't have to be visually perfect. It will attach to the existing exhaust mount on the passenger foot peg.

All fitted up, no problem.

For the money I'm very impressed with this slip-on, and only an extra $25 to weld on the mount (thanks, Mount Engineering). The sound is nice (especially once I put the baffle in the right end, I'm an idiot) but it's still too loud for my tastes. Another point is you need to take off the centre stand because the original stop is welded to the exhaust. It only takes 10 minutes to change back and forth, so I'll just use this one when I feel like being a hooligan.
