Hi everyone,
I’m a complete noob! Just thought I’d get that out in the open. I used to ride horses but now I ride motorcycles, well, sort of.
I live in Auckland and come from a family that enjoys playing round with motorcycles. My dad owned one many years ago, my brother now owns one and I’m hoping to get one very soon now that I have a proper hair cut and a real job! I’ve only just started learning on my brother’s bike and it’s been a blast so far but eventually I want to leave the end of the street, exceed 20 kms/h and get my L’s. :2thumbsup
I rode a scooter while I was at uni, it was fun but I need something with a bit more horsepower now that I’ll be riding on weekends and commuting to work (which is 5 mins from home) haha! My most memorable trip on the scooter was riding home from uni in a hail storm, the wind blew me all over the bloody road, looked like I’d been swimming in a lake when I got home! I’m hoping to be on the road pretty soon on a bike :D This cul-de-sac is getting pretty boring, though u-turns are still freaking me out at times.
That’s pretty much me.

Gidday cock! (Don't worry - silly family greeting, long story involves Australians........)
Riding great so far especially today. You'll be out and about on the streets sooner or later, the cul-de-sac stuff is what the BHS is about; low speed handling. You'll find it easy, especially since 4 cylinder sports bikes aren't the best things for that stuff. We'll have to make way for another bike soon!

Welcome to the site ... keep up with the slow speed practice. It may surprise you (and others) how many low speed accidents happen.
Usually not serious ..
But ..!! ... irritating/embarrassing scrapes and scratches ... on the bike AND rider DO happen ....

Enjoy that cul de sac and make sure it doesn't scare you before you venture out into the big wide roads of motorcycling.

To go back to the OP, not that there would be any hope of getting the thread back on track, actually perhaps it is on track
Keep up the slow speed stuff, it does help you avoid slow speed offs but also give you a feel for the bike and how it will out ride you. By slow riding you can also learn things like if you look where you want to go then that is where you will go, in your case teach yourself not to look at the kerb but around the corner, if you are doing a full circle then at about 90 degrees or more to where you are. This is good for avoid cars and trucks, even trees, that you really don't want to hit.
Good luck with the forums. There be mentors also on this site so I be told and also riding groups for those wanting to learn with like minded company in some areas like that blot on the landscape between the Brynderwyns and Bombays

Hello. Do figure 8's. You get confident turning both ways, moving your head in the direction you want to go & flipping the bike from side to side. Off set slaloms are good, too. Tighter & wider turns force you to think about the corner, control speed, balance etc.
Have fun.

I guess that's a decision you have to make!
Well, years ago I felt like eating an apple. It looked delicious and I felt like eating a nice, ripe, cool, crisp apple from the fridge on a hot summers day. I bit into it, the centre was absolute crap, it was soft and mushy. I thought a fuck it, just my luck to pick a crapple and tossed it over the fence into the neighbours property. They may have found an apple (crapple) smushed on the side of their house :innocent:

orange in the eye, That's rough............. I think you should lay off the the citrus and stick to the golden delicious, less chance of getting those in the eyes..........
If you are having trouble controlling them, maybe you should stay away from the round ones and stick to bananas.

Yup, one way is always easier than the other. Practice your lefties more. This is the reason I like figure 8's. Cut a tennis ball in half & put the two cups 8, 10 or 12 mtrs apart, whatever your comfortable with, the cups are the centre/apex of your turns. Good fun & good practice. Look up Gp8 on youtube for inspiration.

Bit of rain, still went out though. Did well out there for the first time in the wet and only just having a license.
Thanks cock! once I've been out on the road properly I reckon I'll be better/ more comfortable in the rain :niceone:

I hope you realise the protocol for all female motorcyclists, whenever it rains you have to ride braless with a white shirt on.

Very amusing post! I give you 0 out of 10 for creativity (I'm really sorry for the low score it was just a very predictable post) and maybe 2 out of 10 for the effort you made to type such a "wonderful" piece of poo :)

Maybe you need to do a bit more work to become a toll master. Or maybe I'm just immune to your trolling.

Went for a long ride yesterday with mates (well, long for me) winding roads, the highway and the motorway! Only been up and back to the shops after getting my L's the weekend before. My highlight would have to be holding up the doughnut muncher on the winding roads haha! 40 in the 70 zone, was quite proud, the silly bastard couldn't give anyone tickets as long as I was holding him up :) Shat myself a bit around some corners but overall the group thought I did a good job to my astonishment! Was a beautiful day for it, time for NASS me thinks :) Attached some pics from a lookout in West Auckland.

Concur. The more training you get & practice you do the more fun you will have. I know this is true because my n00b(ish) G/F can't stop smiling for 3 days after a good ride. She has done all three pro rider courses, I have done two. Excellent bang for your buck IMHO.
Only kidding about the rain, you have enough to think about without factoring in all the slippery hazards. The best time to ride is when you really want to & your head is in the right place for it. Nothing worse than feeling obligated to go out but really don't want to.

Cheers, booking in for a course in early December, I think it will really help. Got to learn to ride in the rain sometime, only been up and down the street on the wet road.

Once you have your handling skills & confidence in place riding in the wet becomes an exercise in observation to avoid slippy bits & throttle restraint to give you more space and time. Not a biggie at all. An anti fog visor or pin lock is a must. My helmet steams up in the rain. A right PITA.

After you get confident riding in the dry, riding in the rain starts to become a fun challenge.. because it's exactly like riding in the dry, except "dumb" mistakes you'd make in the dry are made more noticeable in the wet.. so it teaches you to be smoother and more careful, a good lesson to take in to your dry weather riding to learn to be smoother.

Concur. When I'm riding in the rain my focus is on avoiding the worn, shiny, tar bled, tar snaked, diesel hued, painted, plain old slippy, bits of our roads. I make the same effort in the dry to positively reinforce the habit & learn the roads I ride regularly. I ride at the same speed, generally, in the rain but it is smoother. It's also more mentally taxing.
