I'm new here to this forum. In the process of moving to NZ (Wellington to be exact)
I have some questions about custom bikes before I pack all my projects. How hard is it to get a custom built bike registered? I have a couple triumphs I was building but running out of time before the move. Would it be smarter to sell it off here in the States and just take a brake from customising or ship them there to finish as time allows?
Here is my old blog about some of the bikes I made last year before I sold my shop.http://trumpnutcycleparts.blogspot.com

Getting compliance is tough here. You are required to have everything 'DOT' or 'E' marked. Brake hoses, light lenses, tyres, and many more things.

You guys have it a tad easier from what I understand.

They do it when they already have a live licence plate though.

We have to do the same here. Or at least have clean titles in our name. D.O.T. lenses is going to be the hard part. What about turn signals? Is there a year cut off?

There is a year after which you have to have turn signals, dunno what it is though. All lenses must be DOT. Older than that year ya don't need them at all.

Vehicles get complied before you can get a plate here.

I build bobbers and frames here and complete bikes.
Compliance here is not bad, its still in the infancy for bikes but for cars there is the low volume compliance ( and hot rod builders guide )

E marked lights
indicators
front brake.
front wheel guard ( some add this just for wof, however there is no coverage rule unlike guards for trucks. )

welds to a professional level. ( frame spuds and fish plates )

bike frame not to be set lower than minimum scrub. ( at ride height unless your using hydros )
draw a line from the center axis of the front rim to the rear axis contact point of the tire to road
and vice versa rear to front the intersection point is the lowest point of scrub.

we perform a steering head twist test ( not part of low volume ) but proves frame rigidly to the inspector.
tube size measurements and wall thickness are done, ( not rules yet but proves its not rubbish )
seamless dom tubing ( erw is not up to it )

steering head alignment to rear wheel within 0.080"

your 67 would need a chain guard, probably mufflers, a mirror, indicators
plate light, front guard. speedo and odometer (miles or kms doesn't seem to matter )

high beam indicator, flasher indicator, brake switch on the pedal and lever
park light wired, running light ...

might have missed a few things..
