Fark me...you have kids!!!

The zoo was pretty cool...way back when I lived in Welly. The little monkeys were left to run free along the path etc. I'd say the PC brigade have more than likely put a stop to that though.

Do you have a car while you are there? Drive up the coast to the Lindale Centre, up State Highway 1 - Paraparaumu (http://www.lindale.co.nz/index.php?page=location). Carry on up the coast too.

The Weta Cave. 1 Weka St Miramar might be something a little different too.

If you're going to Lindale, then Southwards Car Museum is even better, just around the corner from Lindale anyhoo :woohoo:

Now here's a radical thought... sit down with the girls and the internet and do some planning with them around what interests them...

Or go to the Wellington Regional Council website and the Wellington City Council website for ideas... the Hutt River walk can be great fun and parts of it are easily accessible by public transport

Also, some amazing walks round the south coast area and again accessible by public transport...

the Parliament tour is interesting too. Yes, even for a committed nihilist such as yourself.

Te Papa has a shit ton of interactive shit for childs. plus a mega-colossus robo-squid.

if ive got a few hours to kill in wgtn i often head to the library, it a blooody good one, and you can snooze in a bean bag! i remember in late 80's early 90's
they had huge vinyl collection with loads of punk/rarities...the peace/protest punks i knew used to go in and nick them, ah well, music to keep them company whilst camping outside the spybase i 'spose

No fucker will notice.
I understand your concern, but they're gonna have to find out some day and you won't tell 'em and who better could offer them an impartial view on life, eh, hmm.

The Planetarium at the top of the cable car ride should keep you busy for an hour or so. Then you can walk down to the Botanic gardens hugging every tree as you go. Still need to do the night walk (lookin for Kiwi) at Zealandia, but know folks who enjoyed it. If yer lookin to head out of town (up Kapiti) after 2:45 (ish) I gotz wheels and can drop yaz somewhere.

Wellington has the Zoo, Zealandia, Staglands, Botanical Gardens, Te Papa (tho usually only good for seeing the Britten on occasion & the earthquake house), Seals, Southwards Car Museum (it has some bikes too), Police museum.

i'll make a wild guess that you know them as individuals better than most people know their offspring ... so you already know what would please them. that just leaves the problem of where to find it ... solved by (as someone has already suggested) five minutes joint consultation with them on the internet.

have at it, champ!

(my daughter liked us to go up to that park in the hills above the city where the constant earth movements had split the concrete path and moved one part several inches to the side of the other ... we'd then stand with one foot either side, imagine the forces concerned and discuss earthquakes, continental drift, time and such. but she's a strange kid (wonder where she gets that from :innocent:)

Normally I'd agree but as Akzle's two young daughters will be with him I don't think a trip up to Paraparaumu looking for skanks would be appropriate. That said, I suppose he could always leave them at Maccas for a couple of hours?

All the above.

Also, The Bait House aquarium in Island Bay is pretty cool. There is a snorkel trail right beside it, if you Norferners can cope with the temperature of the water. I can connect you with a mate who owns a dive shop if you are keen, they can rent gear.
I have another mate who does tours of Wgtn in a Prado. He can take you on to some pretty cool private land around the south coast. Lots of fun and maybe a bit of kai moana.

PM me if those float your boat.

You cant have my truck, it runs on diesel......

Akzle, a bit of advice.
Do NOT under any circumstances accept coffee from Crasher. These guys really want you indecoffinated aye! Na Pete's a bloody good sort he'll put the kids on any bike in the store, I'm sure.

Otherwise Te papa, your daughters will enjoy that, takes a while too, got a bitsa britten you can drool over for a bit while they climb on the tyranasorearse rex thingy in the corner.
Not sure if they do harbour cruise down there, or if the girls like boats, but it's a bloody big place to see and roads don't let you see some of the things that the water does.

Its not that cheap but book the trip out to Kapiti Island. You have a stiff hike up the hill but worth it...

Or - take the train out to Paraparaumu and wander around the mall or go to the swimming pool (quite new and has a hydro slide of sorts) and take the train back into town. Trains about a hour each way...

Just be prepared for a bloody long wait, was there last weekend for brunch, literally took 40 minutes to get bacon and eggs.
Had first gone to the Bach, walked out of there after ten minutes waiting outside the door to find it was another 30 minutes to get seated.
Can't speak for The Bach re food quality, but Mauranui Surf Club does have good food.
