Ktm exc VS EC-W

Havent been on off road for ages because I have only ridden 3 times a year for the last couple years.

Done the trailer now Doing a big make over on the 08 200exc :)

I'm getting Gnarly pipe from the States (I have a mate that comes back every 6 weeks)

Not sure if the FMF Gnarly is any different in construction for the models
I cant bloody remember this but our EXC is same as their EX-W isn't it??

No such thing as an EX-W in the KTM lineup, you must be reffering to the American XC-W which is the same as the EXC here in NZ.

SX: Motocross
XC: Was close/semi close ratio, stiffer suspension
XC-W: Enduro/wide ratio (same as EXC but not as easy to make street legal)
EXC/XCW-R: Can easily be made street legal XC-W, first 2 years were called XCW-R, now called EXC

The XC and XC-W pipe will both fit the EXC because the changes are in the engine, suspenson and gearbox.
The SX pipe may even fit too, but they may have tuned the pipe slightly differently for the SX and XC, so I would go for the XC-W pipe if there is a choice.

The Gnarly pipe is a great addition to the 200, I put one on my 04 (a few years ago now) and it improved the low and mid range noticeably, being a lazy bastard I didn't even try and fiddle with the jetting and it ran wonderfully.... maybe I am a mechanical genius?
You will enjoy the improvement but be warned they are really soft and damage easily, get some protection on it before riding. One of those segmented armadillo looking things work well.

Always had a pipe snake on the std pipe but I bought a new full cover Hyde sump/pipe guard for the Knarly couple years ago, thats whats going on it :)

All the write ups reckon the Knarly's are really thick compared to the Std pipe even?
It needs to be thick out of the header at the bend mines always pushing back into the frame!

I think I'll like it?? My riding is different know mostly riding reds or free riding the forest at the sandpit etc.
Blasting along the tracks has lost its flavour you gotta go so fast to get a kick out of it falling off would really really hurt.
An I Don't heal so quick these day LOL

Thought about selling and going for a newer lectric start 2 hundy but I spent a K on the suspension and it already had the 6 days 18deg triple clamps the later model head stocks where changed to so decided on a refurb :)

Complete Piston kits have come down from $360 to $280 retail incl all the gaskets to get the port heights/squish correct so thats great.

You can try on my old munted pipe off the XC-W for fit if you want Rick. Can't say I notice the difference in grunt between the Gnarly and the original pipe but then I've been spoilt from riding the FR which has wayyy more low rpm grunt.

To much for my mate to bring back as he's already bringing back some Hagon Piggybacks and front springs for the road bike so I'll have to cop the GST?
BTO doing freight free on that size order :) The Airoh Aviator would damn near cost me that alone over here so I'll have a ride this weekend then hopefully go for it??
The bike owes me nothing its been a bloody awesome bike for trails and MX :) The adjustable power valve is its secret! I can open that up a little more if the pipe makes it a little flat, plus a rejet :)

Random note but I had thought they were called Gnarlys because they were stronger construction over the other models. I know my Pro Circuit bent badly. But hitting a tree pinned in second will do that.

Hell i wouldn't complain about riding 3 times a year I haven't been out since April 2012, 2 1/2 years having small withdraw symptoms at the mo, been buying and selling them here in the US but cant ride as insurance wont cover any medical bills. Definitely have to buy another once back in NZ.

I think the difference is that the original is a twin wall pipe and the Gnarly is a single, thicker wall. I have a tendency to abuse things that stick out (I blame the trees) so my pipe was always getting knocked around and I was surprised to dent the Gnarly on the first ride, hence my comment.
