Hi Guys, I need your help. My partner is an addict (in a good way) and wants to start race training. Now not being a biker I am fully supportive but have no idea in how to surprise him and help him with this. I am trying to find somewhere that does training as well as racing.

I am trying to find if there are any race instructors in the north island that you can 'book' for one on one race training.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate the advice.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Well welcome along to KB first of all.

Firstly, what sort of experiance has your partner had? If he's had no track experiance, buying him a KiwiRider track day is the best bet as they'll usually have a top level guy or two there to offer advice.

If he's already pretty fucken handy, my training advice is to listen to Rage Against The Machines "Killing in the name of" and slapping himself repeatedly in the face just before gridding up. Works for me.

If he's REALLY serious, Brian Bernard or Fred Merkle are the men to speak to.

Thanks heaps, i'll try the kiwirider track day to start with, don't think he has had any track exp - or not that I have been told about, so if he looks blanky at me over a track day, where in NZ are Brian and Fred based (sorry for my ignorance)

Gidday. so much advise to offer -such slow fingers to type with.
I'd assume your hubby has a sportsbike already.
My first suggestion would be to try a trackday. Some folks try a trackday and realise racing just isn't their scene.
The next trackday this year that I know about is the kiwibiker trackday at Taupo raceway. Check the meetings and events page for that one.
I'll be more than happy to give him some help or put him onto someone who can help
If he's serious about the racing bit then give fred merkle a call at Merkle engineering in Taupo. He wont do a 1 on 1 session but he does do small groups and some 1 on 1 training during the day
give me a yell if I can help in any way
