iPhone to tv controlled by iPad?

Can I set up the wife's old iPhone via hdmi / usb to the tv and control it via the iPad ? Or just get an airplay and watch YouTube and light box that way

Get an Apple TV box. It makes connecting iProducts really easy and can play You Tube etc all by itself.
