My 1991 zxr250c feels like its limiting at around 14,000rpm and can be hard to start when it is warm but starts easy when cold. The only mod is a tyga slip on exhaust tip. I was wondering does this sound like it is restricted and do the amazon/ebay derestricted cdi units for them work? Also is there anyone in Auckland who could possibly rejet my bike because of the exhaust?
Thanks guys.

IIRC peak power on a ZXR250 is between 13 and 14k.

Ooh okay, so you reckon it should be limiting at around 14,000rpm? my freind has the same bike which is completely standard and revs freely to the 19,000rpm redline. Is it actually limiting because i thought it was just hesitating kind of

Although it has stopped making power past that point, it should still rev out to the red line freely.

I'm not hugely familiar with that bike, but have you done any intake mods? moved the vacuum cleaner hoses or anything? Maybe you're not getting enough air at higher RPM and bogging down.

No intake mods that i know of, i haven't owned it long, but last night when riding it in the rain it all turned to shit, and the bike was spluttering all the through the rev range

It's a 23 year old 250cc motorcycle ... that has been revving to 19,000 RPM .. for most of that time with (probably) learner riders ...
Ever thought it might just be a little tired .. ??

Sounds like rain water is getting sucked into the intakes ... a whole different issue to not revving to redline. But if the air filters are poked or non existent ... it will be running lean .... and a lean mixture wont help the revving issue.
