View Full Version : Unable to shift at times, possible Shift Star?

I have a problem occasionally where I cannot shift into first or second. I've set the shift leaver for how I like it and I'm not having any issues missing the gear.

When the bike's been sitting (it's cold) I sometime cannot physically shift down into first or up shift to second - it is physically locked up. Tapping it several time seems to free it up. Once the bike warms up and been a couple of blocks it does not happen ever. Had it happen twice yesterday, both time when the bike had been sitting for an hour os so and I had just started out on a ride.

I'm thinking of replacing the shift star and using a stronger spring from Evo. Is there an other more likely reason this would happen?

Yes a Suzuki and only when it's cold (so far).

Warm it up first then ...

Probably a "Friday" bike .. (built of parts made on a friday ... or at/near the end of the shift) tolerances are all up the shit.

How many kays on your one?

I ran mineral oil first 6000 clicks, then switched to synthetic. I found the Busa to be a little stiff to shift first couple of thousands clicks, and it just gets slicker from there on. Quite nice improvement when going to synthetic as well.

Now done about 13 thou and shifting is sweet and slick.
