Gidday,

I had the airbox off the VT250 cleaning the filter and just checking and CRC'ing things, and noticed something weird on the air intake.

It has a scoop with 3 ports in it. Howver one of them was blanked off leaving only 2 functional, but all three are open on the inside. Would this be for the American noise regs perhaps ? (with being an American model VT).

So first thing I did was take to the closed port with a knife (only thin rubber blank) so the intake opens how it was designed in the first place. I don't have access to a Jap/NZ model to compare unfort.
I've yet to take it for a good blast to see if there's any difference and if it needs a jetting mod.

Is this common with American-spec Japanese sport-bikes ?

Cheers
Chris

You must either be describing ya intake wrong or have a really weird bike.
all you should have is 2 60mm across rubber tubes sticking up into aurbox
and of course the tube from the engine breather.

No, it's only one rectangular shaped inlet broken into 3 ducts of which 1 was blanked off.

I'll try and take a pic of it.

I'm going to change my air filter this weekend (If the part shows up in time) I will take some pictures for you.

If you are looking for a carb kit, have a look at http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prodh15.html

I've got mine, but I have not installed it yet, so I cannot tell you if it is worth the effort/money. I am going to install it after I get a new muffler fitted.

Be warned, if you do call, the guy just talks and talks and talks and talks...

The number is 001 415 491 59 20.

Mine is an '89 model.
Thanks for the link, very interesting and useful.

It does have the airbox with the 2 tubes sticking up, what I'm describing is the airbox cover inlet. Sorry I probably didn't clarify that properly.
