I kind of dig the heated seat option, would certainly help with in the assistance of less toilet stops, and the Roids, Standard gear on these bikes include… adjustable seat and handlebars, integral ABS, panniers (no need to fork out that extra few grand) plus electronically adjustable screen. Had a manual one on the GSX.
Liking the ESA option and automatic stability control.
24LT tank, no surprise there being a touring bike.
A bike comparison (with the Concours) from CW says ….
‘’ There’s no question that the K1300GT is an impressive piece of Teutonic engineering that dazzles with its all-around performance. But in just about every area of on-the-road significance, the Concours either equals or surpasses it’’.
‘’ Really, the Kawasaki’s sole drawback is its lack of factory options, an area in which the BMW shines brightly. No matter how you slice it, the Concours 14 is a whole lot of motorcycle for, relatively speaking, not a whole lot of money’’.

PS: I don't have Roids.

I wasn't looking to buy but I rode an ST13 and an FJR a while back to give someone else a second opinion. I was blown away; for 99% of real world riding where you're only kinda risking going to jail I think you'd get there sooner than on a GSXR1000. The weight vanishes quickly and the riding position is excellent for low speed work. Low rpm power is competitive with anything and the electric screen is magic. I want one. I liked them both way more than any Bandit.
There was an 05 FJR1300 with high ks (135) but otherwise very tidy looking (plus panniers, topbox, pipe, heated grips) asking $6.5 on Trademe up until yesterday. Not that that helps you in anyway but I wanted it. Also an 07 Concours with 50k km asking $10k at Motomart with panniers, pipe, grips, topbox gone a few weeks back.
The Beemers command a premium. I'd definitely recommend giving at least an ST13 a go before pulling the trigger.

I would definitely buy a GT1200/1300 if I could afford it and if I had time to tour and if I didn't have a bad back. Scratch all that, The GT is in the top 3 dream bikes for me, One day maybe.

The options are there in this range for sure, and for good money for a bike 6-7 years old (or less) personally the ST1300 would be fourth just behind the FJR.

......the ''maybe one day'' is where I am at also Marty, in no position to buy where we're living/working at the moment. Just getting quotes to get a double garage built at our home in Mangakino. In saying that, these bikes have so much appeal for an 'us' bike.

Well, the first suggestion is to ride them.
R1200RT, K12/13GT (I won't suggest the K1600 ;) ), Concours, FJR, ST1300 etc. Might even throw in an R1200GS as some select it over the RT as it's a more flexible tourer. BMWs command a premium, but personally, I've loved my BMW and can't see much else managing what I've wanted.
Once you know what you want... remember, life is short. Live it

Have not ridden the bmw but spent two weeks touring on a concourse with all the trimmings and to be honest, was not outstanding for me.

You would be far better off on a zx14r. Great touring bike.

They're physically large bikes but they're still built for much the same size rider as other Jap bikes. A plus for some, minus for others.

What sort of riding? What would you have preferred to be on?

Maybe if you're just the right size and shape. My Busa is pretty comfy for the first 500km of the day, getting stiff past that, seriously praying for a second wind by 1000km. Have you had a go on a Connie or FJR?

Ridden Connie and yes idd own one after I rode the zx14r demo I had to order one.
Not having enough money to own both I built a trailer.
I get lower back issues that seem to not be a problem if im leaning forward with some weight on arms.
The worst bike for a trip for me was a blackbird, It was slightly to straight up and down position.
I never road a FJR and it was due to the 2012 models being a older design than the new ones now and they didn't appeal.

An 04'-05' FJR with reasonable K's (yes they are about) is on the list.
