what a beautiful days racing is all i can say!!!
my account of the days racing,
Practice:
i went out on ma new FXR150 with fishie out on his DRZ400 clearing the stones of the track, being the first time on my new bike i was just chilling it then Ivan cam out and we had a little bit of a battle, but he's only got a 50 so ma 150 ate it down the straights. the track was mint and dry as a bone (which comes once a year in the Hutt) so i could start seeing what the bike was going to do, the practice was really long and i spent ages out there just getting used to it
Race 1
i got a mint start and got out in front of everyone only to be over taken buy Fishie, Jay and Bayden on turn one!!! i kept trying to stay up with them but my riding skills and tires just wernt up to it!! og well i ended up being by myself for a while when a guy (dont know his name, rides a RG/MB 100 its black) came flying past me down the straight!!! his bike is so farking fast!!! i ended up 5th in the end so was quite pleased
Race 2
i didnt get my usual great start but got into about 8th i think, this racce i was determined to get at least fifth but it just didnt happen!!! i ended up losing the back end so bad that i wasm completly side ways, peg on the ground opposite lock and on the limiter!! but by the grace of god or something it stayed up  i got past two people to end up 6th i think
we didnt have any more races cause we couldnt be bothered lol but it was great to see some new faces out there and having a blast. for next time i think i will get me some new stick slicks!!!!

I popped down to have a look....It was cool!!
We didn't stay for too long but long enough to see what it was about and to get me even more keen.
Now I gotta find me a bucket!

Sorry I didn't meet you RG, met some of the others.
Now I gotta find me a bucket! The offer stands... or were you looking for a decent one?
I enjoyed myself while the gearbox worked; last every race I think but my average lap speed was up 5kph at the end of the day while the max speed didn't change.
Now to learn how to ride. :wait:
Don't you guys have 'L' plates?

Cheers guys.
Sorry Skunk...I'm not so keen on the a100...those skinny wheels scare the crap out of me.
And Glenn, that was me on the CBR. I might have a rolling chassis lined up but if that falls through and you still have one available I might be keen (if anyone gets in before that's all good though).
What's the general feeling about building a bucket from a 250cc chassis and dropping an appropriate engine in? Are they too heavy or can you get away with it?
Sketchy_Racer
12th September 2005, 19:05
sweet yea the complete standard is mine and the other isnt a FXR its a CBR150RR imported from tailand!!!

Well what a great day. Somewhere new to race and new peeps to do it with. EVERYONE owes Bayden a big thank you for organising such a great day. The barby and drinks went down well. I don't know what's in those green drinks but yeehah! I felt way more into-it after just one. Still not too sure about those little stones but it they didn't seem to cause any problems, specially later when a "line" was starting to show on the surface. I had more problem running over the edge of the tyres. I watched a 50 race and waited the whole race for Jay to lose it but it never happened. Good tyres and he uses them.
Interesting the differances to Auckland, both in riders, bikes and attitude. All good, just different.
I had a great time, now all I need is a bunch of skate wheels and bits of chopping board before the next Kaitoke meeting.
I hope someone can come up with a street circuit as suggested by Bayden. Foxton was fun when we ran there, even in the rain with the river flooding right up to the side of the road. Just don't get one with that really coarse chip surface.

Hey Speedpro - you were on the black number 6 bike weren't you.
Crikey mate that bikes got some pep. First time I've ever seen a bucket wheelying down a straight...
Slingshot - you were there when we arrived but I was preoccupied showing Tim and his mate the bikes while Gini was trying not to look too bored while pushing Nick around in the stroller.
Anyway, you buggered off before I got to say hi - so "hi" now.
I'll catch up with you next time. Tim loves going to see the buckets. But I'm afraid the motards have ruined it for him. He's now demanding a PW50 with two sets of tyres .... <sighs> kids...</sighs>

yea jays one fast guy alright...and i have never seen him fall off by his own mistake at the buckets only when he has been hit!!! he is so consistent with his cornering lines, i have two photos of the same corner with him in it...the only way you can tell the difference is because there is the back wheel of someone elses bike in it. he was in exactly the same palce on the same corner every time!!

Those stones are scary. As I said before in other post my RG died so I packed up after a cursory look. - Only later to find the carb had been spat out of the manifold. Never happened before in 10 years of running that setup.

Now your getting a little to tricky Glen, I might have to get me a RS125 chassis for my 100 motor and we can have the wannabe 125GP class for a bit of a laugh I mean my bikes not gonna be the same as you remebered it Glen its gonna have all the work done to it (If I get round to Tuning it). as for my FXR i have removed all the fairings bucause i thought thay looked ugly and you dont need them for buckets as you dont go fast enough and i have put on a ram air pipe front of the bike into the air box, it made a huge difference, heaps more 'pull' once you get past 50kph!!!! Haha, you guys are funny.
Forced air induction won’t make any difference until high speeds, but you don’t have a sealed airbox anyway so there can be no pressurisation. Can there?. . . No.
The only benefit can be cooler air, but more likely just the induction noise closer to your ears.
Many tests done & aerodynamics don’t count for squat until ~ 80kph & on short tracks we spend little time past there.
Weight however is king. That’s why my bike is so light. I weigh 75kg & I can’t do too much about that, but my bike is super lightweight.
Let’s assume that your bike makes 10hp & weighs 100kg with you on it (for ease of math).
That means your power to weight ratio is 0.1hp/kg
if you & the bike weigh 150kg it is 0.066hp/kg.
to get equal the first bike you would have to tune the power to 15hp for the same acceleration (making some assumptions).
Get the scales & calculators out guys & pay more attn at school. :hitcher:
oh yeah & if you are bitching about getting your engine in a large MB chassis then maybe you should get an RS. They don't exactly fall in -trust me on this.

Thats what we want if you read back abit but they are bloody hard to find im not stripping my RS125 down for buckets cause its to mint and the MB100 chassis if you read the post recognise this nayone actually won the NZ 125GP title with a CR125 engine in it plus im not bitching just feeling abit annoyed at the time

Hey Dave
fully with you about the weight thing thats why im trying to rid as much weight off my bike as possible, but the way the air box is designed on the fxr, there is no where for the air to get sucked except a 2 mm gap between the air filter and the tank, so i cut a hole in the air filter box and hot melt glued some 100mm pipe going into a scoop at the front of the bike and i do believe it made a difference. when i was doing time trials down my street in i got 1 second faster doing 100 metres(i did 6 runs then took average) just by putting the hole in the box but i havent gone out and tried it with the scoop though, will be interesting to see the difference.
Ivan
17th September 2005, 14:45
Hey sounds good Glen Nathan thinks his CBR will kick your bikes ass now cause he has put a new Carb on it. I still think your bike will beat it will be good to watch you 2 racing hard out out there. And he is doing his MB100 motor right up I still have to get round to welding up my new brackets then test start it. Do you know if the motor has been run in or not

The RS chassis was designed with a CR125 engine to fit as that is what the early RS125 engine was. A modified CR125. Problem is due to their oddball narrow rear engine sprocket not much else fits without serious engineering.
I put an MB100 in an RS chassis about 6 years ago now. It wasn’t a success & needs to be redone + the engine got killed in the process thus quashing my motivation. One day when I have some time I’ll finish it, things keep getting in the way though.

So what you are saying is that the airbox is restrictive. This isn’t surprising as it cuts down on noise. Further you’ve likely leaned the mixture & it was probably rich std bringing another increase. But you’re not ‘ramming’ air into it so don’t get excited about a scoop.
At least you are basing your decision on a fairly objective & measurable improvement.

You know so much about tuning on the buckets did you learn all that through the two stroke performance tuning book. Do you have a fleet of RS125 chassis if you do are you willing to sell any as I would really be interested in one they are so natural. You feel like the bike is made for you. That book helped but just reading anything I could find & then trying stuff & spending a lot of time thinking about it & trying more stuff. A lot of stuff didn't work. I ran out of room so I had to throw about 4 RSs in the dump, didn't think anyone would want them as they were newer model ones.
Re the FXR forums. Bear in mind just because you read something on the internet doesn't mean it is true. There are a lot of 5 min experts out here who think they know what they are talking about (me included), so always be aware the person who posted could be as clueless as anyone else but know how to write a good report & post it with pics. If they have had results maybe they don't know why.

MBs are aircooled, they also don't have full reed induction or a rear engine cut to fit a RS engine mount, or a waterpump. It's a lot of work to make them so. Even more to finish them to the point of racing. One day. . .
RG chassis sold & in auckland racing. Engine obviously in RS along with the wheels etc.

nah, that was going to be the wrong direction, it's straight off the clutch from memory I hunted for ages to find the right gear to drive it & a micro bearing offset bored. I've started the bike but not tried the waterpump yet but it should be geared the same as the donor bike the pump came from

so has it it had any porting??? cause it looks like one serious piece of machinery. why water cool it tho?? would the air cooling not do a good enough job?

Can't move for extra ports. Watercooling is always more consistant tempurature wise, which means you can run closer to the edge with tolerances, compression, jetting & ignition. That's why everything modern is watercooled, mx bikes etc all went water in '81.

true that, and you can tell if its over heating as well, did you do this work of was some already done when you got it??

Buckets I've watercooled have always been consistent with their performance - fast at the start of the race and fast at the end. Ask anyone who has done it though and they will all tell you the same thing - creating/building/fitting a waterpump is one hell of a job. I made my last one from scratch and it was a mission and was changed heaps before it worked real well. You can do a thermo-siphon job on an MB though as the barrel is nicely sloped forward. I did an AC50 like that years ago and it worked real well and was so simple.

I did it myself bar the welding (& some milling to speed things up). Problem was the guy welding it made a hash job & stuffed it all. To make it - worse it was a brand new barrel, never had a piston in it that I scored for $70. That made me sick & hence the prolapsed state of the bike.
I decided to graft on an NSR waterpump running at the normal gearing & direction so it should be just peachy, maybe even too good, but you can lessen efficiency & drag by spacing the cover out with some gasket.
