View Full Version : Scooter Bogs on Full Throttle - Where to Service?

Hi,

Recently purchased a second hand 50cc Yamaha Jog CV50 (2 stroke) which has done around 11,000kms.

After cleaning the air filter and putting it back in, the scooter now bogs down when applying full throttle.

At around 30km/h if I hold the throttle wide open to accelerate further, the scooter will hesitate and bog down. If, from a complete stand still or slow speed I gently roll on the throttle, then there are no issues and it will get to about 55km/h with no issues. Incidentally, it was working fine for 30 mins or so then started happening out of no where.

What could be causing this? It seemed to work fine prior to cleaning the air filter, although I only have about 1 hour of riding before touching the air filter to compare to now.

Also where is somewhere that I can get it serviced that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg?

Cheers

Warm water with soap. Rinsed it with fresh water then let it sit to dry completely in the sun before putting it back.

Paper filter?

No, should've clarified earlier but it is a foam filter. It didn't have any tears and looked new once I had cleaned it.

Re-oiled it? Or it didnt have oil on it first?

No I didn't, it didn't have on the filter prior to cleaning either.

Interestingly just took it for a blat up to road for 15 mins and had no issues at all. Hopefully this isn't going to be a randomly occuring thing.

I would say it wasnt dry. I worked on a bike that the guy had washed the paper filter an wondered why the bike flooded horribly after.

Click here for several 50cc scooter service manuals. Your Yamaha is listed. Might be useful. The air filter should be oiled.

Can't seem to view that image.

I'll have another go tomorrow and oil the filter.

They do have jets. When you oil it, just a little bit of oil will do so its mildly damp. Don't drown it. If you can wring it and oil dribbles out its too much and it'll bog again.
