Any idea what has happened to this tyre? Is it safe to ride or does it need changing immediately? It's on a brand new bike and only done 6k. It's a Pirelli Angel GT. Is this a manufacturing fault or something I've done?? Im supposed to be riding from Auckland to Palmy tomorrow and no where to get a new tyre until Tuesday. Cheers for your help. Sorry not the best of pictures but hopefully enough for you to see.

I don't see a fault. Do you have a better picture or can you explain what it is that is causing you concern?

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.

...I couldn't see a fault either...but then again I just checked to see what was on the Sommet sports channel and I'm certain I read...Australian Sphincters, but some guys were racing sprintcars...should'a gone to specsavers...is that a tyre in the pic...

Looks like its so worn near the middle its near the steel belt.
Not best pix to judge that though.

Thats what it looks like when you wear out the center.
Change it ASAP.

What tire pressure are u running?

The fault is on the centre line. It has a bunch of little horizontal grooves that cover about a third of the circumference of the tyre. It's a hard one to explain but looks a little bit like peeling? Running at 42psi. Thanks.

What is the bike, assuming the 250 in your user notes isn't it, and do you weigh more than 100kg?

That tyre will get about 200 km before the steel belts start showing through. 6 - 7K on an Pirelli Angel is about right. Try a multi compound tyre (Pilot Road or similar) if you want greater distance.

+1 what Asher said.
F all rubber left in the centre.

Thanks Guys. Will stop in at Cycletreads in the morning to see what they can do.
It's on a Triumph Tiger Sport not my 250. :) I really need to update my profile.

just to add to above reply the tyre is delaminating due to localised heat build as there is no rubber left on the centre of the tyre It's stuffed and should have been replaced at least 500km ago. The heat build up is causing the bonding agent that glues the tread to the carcass to break down and the tread is literally "falling off", this is why it is never a good idea to run modern radial tyres below the tread wear indicators.
