Do you have some experience with these motors? If you can add something then feel free. I will have the head off this weekend so will know more.

As this is an '86, it is likely a kick-start only model with 18" wheels.
Head gaskets on these are susceptible to leaking. Do the following:
Ensure head and barrel mating surfaces are perfectly flat.
Replace the cylinder head studs/bolts (depending on your preference/use) with new ones.
Use genuine Yamaha head and base gaskets, or (preferably) copper for the base gasket. Do not use 'sandwich'-type gaskets; do not use sealant. Cheap parts aren't worth bothering with.
Use steel cylinder head washers (the ones on the long head bolts) from the late XT600E: these compress less than the SRX items
I'd agree it's probably not worth $2k, but condition is everything. That includes mileage, service history, and so much more. The later monoshock, electric-start bikes supplied with 17" wheels tend to sell for more, and may be worth $2k in good condition.
That said, I am interested. They are a good, if underwhelming (in power terms) bike in stock trim. Any pics available?

I bought the bike running but leaking oil , condition is tidy and what I would call original.it appears from car jam that it is a new in NZ bike. I will get some pics in the weekend.I am in Hamilton if you are close you are welcome to come and look.

I'm 30-40 minutes up the road - not far. Let's see how things pan out.
