View Full Version : Repairing waterproof lining in Revit trousers?

Hi All,

All my trousers get crotch holes - I am convinced this is because of my rather large testicles.

The downside is that when the trousers with the holes in is the waterproof lining in my bike trousers, my boxers get wet when I ride to work in the rain which is no fun.

current plan to repair the lining is in true redneck fashion, to Duct Tape up the the holes and double side the tape so that its not sticky.

Has anyone got either:

a: a better way to do this or
b: tips on how to initiate duct tape repairs?

Get some other material that is vulcanised (like an old raincoat or the hood of a raincoat you don't use, I hâve bought cheap wet gear from the warehouse before to do this) and cut out the shape you need.
Contact adhesive to the two vulcanised sides, wait till tacky then press out all the air bubbles.
Spray on works better.

Get it right and it still looks factory on the outside.

If the outer shell is compromised as well you will need to stitch it up.
If this is not possible because your malformed and swollen testis hang out through the hole I'd suggest a cod piece. Lol.
Or to look natural get a leather seat sown in and treat the leather.
I have some old pants you could recycle the leather seat out of.

Or overtrousers would work well. Cheap ones work much better than the cheap jackets for some reason (I'm guessing lack of zips to half arse seal)

Oh aye, the over trousers are always a better solution, but he did ask how to patch his existing pants.

From past experience I can say that duct tape repairs tend not to be waterproof either.

I'm trying this stuff on my rain pants at the moment:

There were a couple of places where the seams had obviously come away, I've coated them in this stuff and that seems to have stopped the worst of it, YMMV. I wear a pair of '100% waterproof' rev'it overpants underneath these in the rain though, so there's two layers for the water to get through.

Aquaseal is brilliant stuff. I have used it on a few wetsuits (where waterproofing is not an issue but stretch is) and a drysuit (where waterproofing is.... .....well you get the idea) for my scuba activities. The secret is a clean surface to apply it too and allowing a decent curing time. Neoprene in a tube.

After 40 years riding bikes, I've recentlyish (in the last couple of years) gone back to wearing cheapish waterproof overtrou and jacket over my (expensive) and once-waterproof-ish 4-seasons gear. The goretex liners are SO fragile, so it doesn't take many days/weeks/months of commuting before they leak. Great in principle, in case the weather decides to run through the gamut of all 5 seasons, but you only need one failed seam or pinhole and you get that icky watery feeling as the rain finds its way down your leg /arm /chest /manparts. Mind you, the liner on my Spidi trou are now so well and truly ferkt that every time I put them on or take them off, there's a snowstorm of little goretex flakes on the floor.

Same. Bought some bison industrial Fluro gear off 1day. The same price as the warehouse stuff.
The best I ever had though was purple and pink women's gear from the warehouse.

Folded very small. Seams held up well. Torrential rain no match. Don't recall them ever leaking. Being uglier than Vitz meant I could
Leave them hanging to dry anywhere without worrying they'd get nicked.
