View Full Version : Master baiting season is upon us and I am unprepared

Big Dog

Spring is here the grass is long and mating season is in full swing, the ony problem is the recent bad weather has driven the mice from the paddocks accross the road indoors.:pinch:

Does anyone by any chance happen to have any spare bait stations or bait?
I seem to be a little more skint than usual and don't want the little buggers getting too comfortable before next pay and they seem to know how to get the peanut butter off the traps without setting them off.

Can pickup from anywhere reasonably between or near Tuakau and Mt Eden.

I remember putting out stainless steel buckets (I forget what they are called but you make jam in them, if you want to make 40l at a time) with a willow stick though an apple to drown rats.
Fuck they are unhappy if you come back too soon.

Not entirely sure I want the 2 year old coming accross that. Especially if the mouse has not finished drowning yet.

Probably not, but then seeing them in a trap opens questions too.:2thumbsup

More worried she might try to pick up the mouse.
Pretty sure the mouse will be pissed off at that point.

Wanna borrow Gunter.
He eats everything that fits in his mouth.
Your children are older than 6months?

Big Dog

Lol, based on that waistline there are a lot of mice at yours. Would he be happy enough to teach our cat how to get that far? Our useless cat hunts over at the farm across the road, won't hunt in the house.

Ps. My wife says: oooh, isn't he sooooooo cuuuuuuutttteeee!

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.

Yeah .. I have one like that - called him Megadeath ...

Four birds in one day ... ( he catches kingfisher, paradise ducks and pheasants as well as the small ones).

Three (yes 3) rabbits in one night ...

Occassional eel (yes, I've never seen a cat catch eels before this one - I thought that was a myth.)

He brings in few mice ... I think he doesn't regard them as takeaways and eats them on the spot ...

you can't afford some fucking 1080 but you can afford to drive to auckland every day...

i think you need to reevaluate your life and consider whether mice are actually the most of your problem.

No, my life would be infinitely ( or some proximity to ) better if work would just move closer to Tuakau. Or at least some company that could make use of my talents.

Perhaps it is the death cycle or need to ride to work to pay for, among other things the ride to work?

Perhaps I was particularly efficient in disposing of my "Jew gold" this month?

Perhaps new truckloads of "jew gold" only arrive monthly?

...a ferret trap as used by DoC and enclosed in a box with a lid will keep your billy lids eyes and fingers away from the scene...they turn mice into small wafers, rats into something that resembles a small flat rug and fuck ferrets also...they cost a couple of bucks and need a strong arm to set them...I have two set at either end of a box about two foot long and a foot wide and high, bait in between them...cwunch, gawn...

you're talking about fenn traps in a tunnel. not suited for mice.

the other thing is a DOC 150 or 200, which will get mice (very touchy trigger plate...) typically set one-in-a-box with an opening on one side and bait on the other.

the balanced ruler does work, or camp them with a slug gun. i've watched mice crawl over mouse traps (traditional wooden type), yet to find one that will argue with lead delivery.

there are also "ratcatcha" brand/style/type - plastic hinged bizos, also with very good trigger plates...

-edit again-
no wait, maybe you actually mean doc traps.
i think it was henderson manufacturing?? or somewhere in onehunga?? (some fucken place in dorkland) has the contract to make them.

The "ratcatcha" type is what we have. fantastic for when little fingers get in them... not so great in that one of the mice got a pat on the head the other night and still got away...

Bucket, ruler, bait. Put it under the house or in a cupboard where little miss cannot reach or hear the splashing. Cheap as chips, and the mice stay nice and soft so you can encourage the cat with them.:devil2:

You want a mk4 or lower fenn trap to get mice effectively. :niceone:

fenns are designed to fold rabbits or mustelids in half... not at all targeted toward mice, a fucken leghold trap would (does) a better job of them.

Only the bigger sizes, they make some that are for mice and other small rodents too. We used them in certain huts when I was with doc, as they are hypocritical about poison use. :msn-wink:

...I, due to your pic now know the model of my trap...a 150...turns mice to wafers and rats into 'waffled' rugs..noisy as in the middle of the night...sounds like a car prang down on the highway...there would be no life left inside of a nano second for the rodent...

depends on the size, they still don't pass the "humanity" test 10 for 10... (~90% of catch killed within 3 seconds)
- if the spine/neck dont break or the head isn't caved in then it's collapsed lungs or suffocation that gets em.

150 are smaller (liek, 150mm) and 200s are bigger... and yes, both kill meeses.

live catch mouse trap? never heard of it.

leg holds? possums are easier to pluck when freshly made-dead. cats, stoats and goats, on the other hand, are why i carry a pistol. to the supermarket.

Hardware shops sell them. Look like a small cage with a drop door at one end and a bait on a trigger at the other end.

Kind of tempted to catch some like that and throw them in a bathtub with the cat until she gets it.

If you have a few rats you want one of these, co2 powered with multiple hits.

I made the plastic injection mould tooling at work for these.
