hello bikers! imma Chinese and also a huge fun of motobike.

according to my heart, i really like to do the motocycle things as a job and work with some real bikers. but in China, almost in every big city, there are many policy limits that makes u cannot ride a bike totally legally (even u already got the licenses for bike and urself).

so, now im willing to be a motorcycle mechanic in NZ. i think this forum is the best place to talk about motocycle things in NZ. so i wanna get some information and help from here~
Is there any school has a major or a trainning course that can train me to become a qualified mechanic? and does the school accept foreign student?

really appreciate~~

Short answer ... NO.

An apprenticeship at a motorcycle outlet will be required.

Some places do run Pre-Apprenticeship courses that may help your chances at being offered such a position.

Hello.

I am led to believe that the only motorcycle course is / was being offered in Wellington at WelTec Polytechnic.
www.weltec.ac.nz

All educational providers will have a provision for overseas students like yourself, as well as domestic (kiwi) students.

It probably means that "course related costs" will have to be paid by you, without funding assistance from the NZ government. I could be wrong though.
Best of luck!

Why spend time in school when you could be paid? Your best option would be to get a investment/business visa and go into business as a Motorcycle Mechanic in Auckland. No experience is necessary - Hire your family and your good to go.

Start off on older less valuable bikes & Harley’s until you get the hang of it.

You can source high quality parts online from China which mostly can be made to fit. Harley’s go back together best with cheap parts that cost a lot so buy those from eBay.

For the Jap stuff invest in good quality tools from the Wearhouse. Don’t waste your time on Chinese scooters - quicker to drill out the fasters as those have to be replaced anyway.

Go green to shave cost while building your reputation - (50/50 Dino mix and a coffee filter). Re-gap the plugs, parts cleaner is $2 minimum dispense so take a can with you (go with the regular - it's cheaper), and look for a used pair of Dolphin friendly gloves (get a couple of pairs if the price is right).

Keep old parts that look to still have some life in them - think about splashing out on $20.00 of used parts for customer who like old parts. Sort the parts into those with and those without asian looking writing on them. It’s a little extra work but some customers are hard to please.

Your time is valuable - don’t pay for expensive premiums which aren’t needed. Payment before “working” on a bike, english to a minimum - “tank you”, “Have nice day”.

Oh yea, before I forget, it ain’t China so don’t lane split going to work.

"So Frank Chen, would you like to tell us a bit more about yourself. If I'm wrong about you being a troll I will humbly apologise. If you a real I have 1998 GSXR750WW that smokes like a dragon. If you can tame this beast and make it domesticated again I will pronounce you me mechanic supreme motorcycle san. Thank you."

thank you very much for your advice!! really helpful!

my decision is firm. i really want to go to NZ.

now, my plan is to get a work/visit visa that permit me to stay in NZ 3 months.
i can do some repair or mantainance work and know how to buy quality parts from China(cheaper and faster than ebay). when i arrive NZ, by using the 3 months visa, i will try to find a work opportunity or buy a repair shop( if the price no more than $20000) to get a long-term work visa.

then i will import some fairing parts from China and sell them at low price. for example, a suit of body kit fairing for cbr400 can be sold only $200( installation included). i wish that can help many bikers.

tks again. you are a good man~

Do you mean that when you accelerate, lots of white smoke run out from exhaust?

the smoke is white ,which means your GSXR750WW's engine burns too much motor oil.

there are two ways to solve it. change a engine or take the engine apart and change the piston rings( by this way, you need to run-in the engine for a long time after repair to get it back to peak)

GSXR750 is a good monster! maybe you rode it too fierce led to the engine overheating. and then broke the piston rings. keep the radiator tank full of cooling liquid and make sure the cooler runs well~

in China, to repair this kind of problem, you need to pay $100 for the parts and $150 for a skilled mechanic.

well, you are right, white smoke is coolant, when it at low temperature
as i know, blue-white smoke means ur engine start to burn oil, it is a incipient stage
and grey-black smoke is a result of the gas mixture is not fully burning. maybe carb has some problem
whatever....
the point is... do you have some pics of your cousin?

Wrong on all counts.
Smoke due to leaky No1 valve seal. Not worth cost of disassemble to rectify.

A real mechanic should know that there is no need to run in a modern engine. Just start and ride gently till warm then take it to the power and give it some berries.
Problem not from fierce riding too much, more like ridden too much like akzle's cousin.

But just like when you have good women, having a good bike means everyone wants to ride and fuck with it when your not home and it ends up a bit ragged and smokey....

first, leaky seal would lead to smoke, which is a possible case. but not only leaky seal, scratched cylinder or piston ring would lead to smoke too~

and... did you ever change the piston rings? piston ring is not a regular circle. after rings changed, you need to run in the new rings to match the shape of the cylinders.

whatever... i agree with the last paragraph! we buy bikes, because we want to fuck with them. just like to fuck good women. more fierce, more fun.

Sorry you need to reenrol and pay the fees for course stage 2 and 3 again.

Just like the customers brakes you must bleed them dry several times before telling them to fuck off.
Its a cornerstone of bad business that you need to pillage as much as possible when no chance of repeat business. :)

tks for this quiz. i read the quiz very carefully. and it reminds me to think more about the practical details.

go abroad and try to be a motor mechanic. i know it is a idealized and impetuous plan. actually, i know it must is a risky advanture and full of youthful impulse. but...
i really really like motobike. i am enthusiastic about this venture opportunity. i want to have a try.

all quistions of this quiz are practical and useful. tks for your exam.
you are a good man! most of your quistions remind me of the realistic issues and problems.
now i know only enthusiasm is not enough. i'm tring to make it feasible.

thank you! thank everybody who helped me. thank you~
