As usual from the Hamilton guys, a nice relaxed club meeting with a good turn out of faces I had not previously seen at recent meetings. Thanks for all the work that everyone put in to make the day run.

Legend award must go to Rcktfsh who with 2 more flag marshalls required parked his bike to hold a flag, and then to Mark Hatton who pointed this out at riders briefing and put 50 bucks up to someone to come forward to replace Shane as a flag marshall. I saw Shane walking back in soon after so good on that last person for finally coming forward.

Pity the weather screwed around with wet/dry/wet/dry/wet/dry/wet/dry (you get the picture!).

Despite the challenging weather we managed to get through a full programme and great to see lots of smiles in the pits. Huge effort by the marshals who bore the brunt of the weather a big thanks from the club for your efforts. Talking of smiles none were bigger than 14 year old Aaron Lambourne"s, having his 1st meeting he made the podium in r2 :2thumbsup . Looking forward to seeing everyone at round 2 in July.

She certainly earned her keep, even with an absence of people falling off there. I hope it didn't put her off.

Rees retains lead in Shoei Winter Series

A large contingent of riders were greeted with near perfect weather conditions for the second round of the 2015 Shoei Winter Series, at Hampton Downs on Sunday July 19.

Waikato-based Kawasaki racers shared the spoils in the premier Bridgestone Tyres Senior Race category with Hamilton's Nick Cole taking victory in race one while Steve Bridge crossed the line first in races two and three, after placing second in the opening heat.

Now retired, Cole was running-in the engine on a new Kawasaki ZX10R Superbike in early preparation for the return of Liechenstein resident Horst Saiger, for Saiger's defence of the Suzuki Series crown next summer.

Bridge enjoyed a near perfect day on his 2008 Kawasaki ZX6R, "I’m pretty sure Nick gifted that last win to me - we were having a lot of fun dicing and I can see he`s making good progress with the new ZX10 set up," Bridge explains. "I’m really happy to be matching my last season’s lap times on a cold day like this, I made good progress with bike set up at Wanganui during the Suzuki Series last year and this is my first time back on the ZX6 since then, so I’m pretty confident with the bike set up now. Most of my focus lately has been with the development of my Ducati powered Superlite machine."

Jared Love made a rare appearance on a borrowed Honda CBR1000RR Superbike and was rewarded with a second and two third placings on the day.

A consistently fast Damon Rees (Whakatane) continues to lead the series after posting a third and a pair of fourths on his Tony Rees Honda CBR600RR, and has a 27 point advantage over Bridge with one round remaining on August 23.

16 year old Jacob Stroud won all three of the Honda Hamilton Intermediate races, after the Hamilton youngster started each leg near the back of the field having been caught out with the wrong tyres during morning qualifying. Josh Augustine was second in each race while Matthew Eggleton was third in the first heat, and Chris Swallow slotted his immaculate Ducati TT2 600 into third for the remaining two legs.

Josh Augustine holds a healthy 23 point lead in the Intermediate series on his Suzuki SV650.

Stroud had no answer for Daniel Parry in the Bike Busters Junior Development class. Parry took three convincing wins on his Kawasaki EX250, each time well ahead of Hyosung X4R mounted Stroud. Jason Robinson finished third twice, while Campbell Grayling was third in race two.

Parry has a 30 point lead in the Junior Development series ahead of Stroud.

Francis O'Hara surprised many with a good turn of speed on his Yamaha FZR1000 to win the opening heat of the Shoei Post Classic Senior/Junior race, followed across the line by Senior series leader Mark Hatton on a similar machine, and Hamilton Motorcycle Club president Shayne Lawrey on a Yamaha FZR600.

Hatton won the next two races from O'Hara and Lawrey, who took a second and a third each, to enjoy a comfortable 52 point series lead from Gian Louie, who didn't start the final two legs.

Riding in the Shoei Post Classic Junior category, Lawrey has a 41 point series lead over Matt Eggleton with 75 points on offer for the remaining three races at the final round on August 23.

All three heats of the Putoline Clubmans class were dominated by Aucklander Rendy Sugiarto on a Ducati 1199S, while Wellingtonian Chris Swallow also delivered a trio of well earned victories on his 1959 BSA Gold star in the Boyd Motorcycles Classics races.

The final round of the 2015 Shoei Winter Series will be staged at Hampton Downs on Sunday August 23.

Damon Rees wins Shoei Winter Series

Whakatane rider Damon Rees took overall victory in the 2015 Shoei Winter Series in perfect conditions at Hampton Downs on Sunday, August 23.

Kawasaki ZX-10R mounted Travis Moan, of Auckland, secured race one and race three wins in the Bridgestone Tyres Senior class, while Nick Cole won race two riding a new Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Cole was running the bike in for Czech Republic racer Roman Stamm for the Suzuki Series and Red Devil Racing, but didn't compete in race three as he had to start work that afternoon. Cole remains officially retired from racing, and Stamm is a team-mate of popular 2014 Suzuki Series winner Horst Saiger, who is also returning.

But the day belonged to 20 year old Damon Rees, who went into the round with a 27 point lead over Steve Bridge on a Kawasaki ZX-6R. Rees however pulled out the big guns and brought a recently built-up Tony Rees Motorcycles Honda CBR1000RR Superbike to the final round, his first race on a big-bore race bike.

Bridge started the day well by making the race one podium, one position ahead of Rees, however Rees made fast work of learning to ride a Superbike and came home third in race two, and then second behind Moan in the third heat after a long battle with Bridge.

Rees proved well capable of making the most of the extra horsepower his 1000cc Honda offered compared to Bridges 600cc Kawasaki.

Bridge, of Ngaruawahia, was second in the series, with Hawera's Nick Prestidge third on his booming Ducati 1098.

Rees says, "Tony was building one of his CBR1000s and said 'Do you want to run one in?' so I decided I may as well have a go at it and have a bit of fun on a one thousand! The bike performed pretty well considering it still has a stock-standard shock and forks. I really enjoyed riding it as it was nice and soft and easy to ride. It was cool to finally get down to some sevens (1m 7 second lap times), that's not too bad considering it was my first ride on one.

"I'm pretty sure my dad's first club championship that he won was a Hamilton Motorcycle Club event as well, so it's pretty cool that I got my first club championship in a Hamilton club series - it's pretty special."

Rees plans to race his Tony Rees Motorcycles Honda CBR600RR in the coming road race season but has no current plans to race the Superbike just yet, "Maybe not this season but in the future I'd love to race one for a season, that would be exciting!"

Jacob Stroud, 16, won the opening Honda Hamilton Intermediate race on his Hyosung X4R from Gerard Pijfers and Josh Augustine. The remaining two heats were won by Suzuki SV650 mounted Nathan Jane, with Michael Robinson second and Augustine third in race two, while Augustine moved up a position to cross the line second in the final race, with Ian Reed third.
Josh Augustine won the Honda Hamilton Intermediate series ahead of Robinson and Stroud, who broke a collarbone after a race two crash.

Daniel Parry won the Bike Busters Junior Development series on his Kawasaki EX250 after crossing the line first in all three heats of this very popular series. Parry was the only rider this year across all the classes to remain unbeaten through the nine race series, and there's little doubt the Ngaruawahia youngster will be a rider to watch in the future.

Riding Yamaha FZR1000s in the Shoei Post Classic Senior/Junior race, Francis O'Hara scored two wins while Mark Hatton enjoyed his race two victory - and the series win for the second year running.

Hamilton lawyer Shayne Lawrey won the Shoei Post Classic Junior series on his Yamaha FZR600 and was fast enough to regularly feature on the podium with the bigger bikes.

The Boyd Motorcycles Classics series was won by Adrian Collins on his well presented 1975 BMW R100.

Aderino Sugiarto put in some great rides on his often smaller capacity Honda CBR600RR to win the Putoline Clubman series.
