View Full Version : Modem woes

The End

Using the default Telecom modem WiFi I get frequent ping spikes from stable 55 to 400+ for a second or two. I only notice while playing games, most notably League of Legends. It happens on average every 1-2 minutes.

Interestingly though, if I have something streaming in the background such as a YouTube playlist, my ping is perfectly stable. If I stop streaming, I go back to getting random ping spikes.

Thoughts on what could be causing this?

Sounds like it might be Vodafone playing and prioritising your data upstream.

However, try a different (quality) modem first. Most of the time the free ones the ISPs give out are shit.

Sorry, I got mixed up. Currently using the default Telecom one, broadband provided by Telecom. Have tried the default Vodafone modem and don't get the issue, however the Vodafone modem will randomly disconnect from the network completely (ie: Windows saying limited access).

Take it to your neighbours place (if they know their username and password) and test your gear out there. If nothing else it'll confirm whether the gear is bust or if the issue is with the line.

modem? MODEM?
hey, 1995 just fucken called...

Check your windows for faggotry like 'enable burst transmission to increase network :tugger: /rimjob gates'

is your neighbour hot?

Also get rid of that huawei faggotry. D-link it up bro.

Also, hole-y nat and passthrough config.
Or go outside and play.

But srsly, is your neighbour hot?

one more also: pull your tongue out of the telecom anus and get on wxc. Preferred isp of stoners, hackers and L33t g4m3r7. Also staffed by said stoners, hackers and L33t g4m3r7

To be fair, Dynalink have been Ok. No, I wouldn't touch D-Link.

Most modems we use currently are Draytek.
