Well it wont be spending much time there anyhow

But after a few months of having nothing sitting where past mounts have lived, and weighing up what I wanted next, I blew a few pennies on a new ride

So far seems to go as good as it should, just got to dial in the suspension as whoever had it previously knew sweet F/a and had everything wound up to max front & rear

Nice. Had one the same colour also.
Great bike.
Be careful if you ride hard two up without the suspension set hard it can drag the fairings in hollows mid corner.
Its not a very nice black plastic look when it touches down.
Has the belly pan area been repaired? I don't remember mine being black. Maybe it was scraped and repaired.

No repairs anywhere on it or scuffs etc, only got 22k on the clock, and apart from the tail tidy, hugger & pipe its basically stock. Came with original unmarked can & bits plus the Silver book outlining the design development ;)

The suspension was as rigid as, even my 110kg wouldn't budge it bugger all, & on the road it skittered around way to much and just felt plain nervous..... it's better now but I'll get better before I start giving it the mumbo

Nice. I think mine may have been a B model. It might have been 2003.Was the same silver without the black pan. I managed to scratch both sides on my first 2 up ride over the hill. Mine was likely set for a 80kg wet rider when I got it.

Skittering back wheel is something you may need get used to.
You can get a slide and wheelie going at the same time coming out of corners (disclaimer closed road only).

The way it was set up it would've spat me into the undergrowth if I'd given it the push, as it was I had to ride 70km home in the rain when I got it so felt it get a bit loose a couple of times :innocent:
had the slide & wheelie thing happen a few times on other bikes so this wont be any different  sure there's a cager in ChCh who still has nightmares of a big black bike goin around the outside of him doing that.....the look on his face was priceless :gob:

:niceone: Had been looking for a while and not having a bike for a few months I had a short list and one of these was on it, so once I'd seen it in the flesh it was a must have
Regretted moving the ZXR so needed another Kwaka in the shed :innocent:

Nice ride! But the last line made me crack up...must have sold the bike thinking it's just too dodgy for him?

 A Church pew would've given a more compliant ride....front end preload was fully wound in, rebound & compression damping were the same. The rear was basically the same :oi-grr:

Looks great mate! Top score.

:niceone: Intention is to keep it as such, but there's plenty of room for improvement and a bit tinkering :shifty:

I'd always liked the look of them since their release, and had worked on a couple in the past so they were firmly on the one day list....have had an Electric Blue B series as a screen saver for a long time so the temptation was always there.
Ditto about the Busa, a mate had a black K5 & it just didn't do it for me....as fantastic as the whole package is, the shape turns me off.

There's more fun to be had punting a middleweight around the tight stuff :msn-wink: Just being able to shorten up long straights at the twist of the wrist is a handy option where I live  and everything's well warmed up by the time I get to the local playgrounds

Always wanted one of these. Never could afford one that was not visibly thrashed to within an inch of its life.
Funny, i have only owned one Kawasaki out of 8 bikes. Three were Suzukis. Yet I still consider myself a Kawasaki man.
If I ever get around to another hyper tourer one of these will be up for consideration still. Even compared with the current crop they just look and feel more the part.

I think the ZX14, I especially like then concourse, is a work of art but lacks thé personality of the 12.

i brought that bike 4 years ago from Kaitaia from tm for a cheap price, also had a Aprilia RSVR at the same time!. it did sit for a year on its side stand roped to a wall which stuffed the front fork springs, would bottom out over hard braking bumbs, only wound the rebound up and compression 5 clicks! ,never touched the back shock as you will see if you take a look . also when i fired it back up the speedo sensor didnt work didnt throw a f1 light as only a 16bit ecu so just rode it a few times like that .pissed me off so got brand new 14r .not 850 km try 2300 KM on it So there we have it Facts!!!!!!

Yeah similar story.... brought a ZXR 10 or so years ago did 60thou+ kms on it...just felt so attached to it when out on the road and eyed up a few ZZR11s that I missed due to one reason or another and vowed to get hold of a good Kwaka somewhere along the line. As a hairy arsed teen hoon always loved the GPZ1100....(managed to get hold of 750 a few years ago) but got bitten by the K-bug after having a 30km blast on Z1300 when I was 18.
Admired the 12R from the 1st time I saw one, worked on & rode a XZ-14 before managing to sling my leg over a 12R, but the 12 has a bit more rawness to it.

Funny  coz I'd trust someone who I've known 30+ yrs and a shop I've dealt with for longer over a few lines placed on the interweb
IFairies must have played with the suspension then or you're a ham fisted chump if what the suspension was like is your version of a few clicks
Should've taken a couple of pics of the way it was....:pinch: you don't deserve to be near a bike if that's your idea adjusting the suspension

Nice find, theese are a nice bike from my experiences with them, always liked the big Kwaka's.

One thing of note, previously in the UK i worked on alot of theese and the only thing they seemed prone for was tightening valve clearances. We were doing them every 8,000miles and you could almost guarantee all the exhausts would need shimming. And the frame design makes it a fiddly bugger of a job to re shim them.

Regular oil changes and making sure they were warmed up propperly before rinding them were the only things we found that helped stem the clearance tightening process.

Otherwise they were a real pleasure and no other common faults i came across. Im sure you will enjoy every minute on her.:niceone:

Im having trouble finding photos of mine now. Cant even find any on sd cards. Might be some in the photo albums.
Was a 2005 model.

I did dig up some old 1/4mile results from 2005.
Turns out I won the standing quarter miles ( First equal ) 10.31 sec. Managed that time twice during the day.

B3 & B4 went to the radial 4-pots. There was a year or so when they came with the curved scoop and 6-pots I think. The 4-pot legs accept the black Nissin calipers from the '14, a popular upgrade.

Did all the A models have the 350kph speedos or only the de-restricted.

Mine ran the flying quarters plus or minus 1km every time in 5th or 6th. Think 276kph true speed by memory. It had more to give but went sad sack. Speedo was showing 300 at the time.
I put it on Motomarts dyno and it had 168hp rear wheel. Not sure if ram would add 10 more. 2005 model.

I think the only difference between the first "full noise" models and those after the "gentlemen a agreement" was smaller header pipes & modified ECU.

I have the '04 and have always wanted to do the sprints, I got to 265 timed on my old ZZR1100. I rate the ZZR as a better all-rounder and easier to live with as an only bike.

B series...more integrated intake scoop, mirrors changed, triangulated pilot light, different screen & head lights, black swingarm, radial 4pot calipers
A series... pronounced scoop, alloy painted swingarm, slimline pilot light & deeper screen, 6pot calipers

There's a few more minor differences less obvious at 1st glance.

Got the quickest standing but not quickest flying by some distance. Speeds are averages but idd say spent most of the time on the limiter in the timed 1/4 showing its true speed limiter is lower than the 300 claimed and indicated on speedo.

Read a few of the KHI bulletins about some issues back years ago and a few mentioned premature wear of cams on low km (sub 10k) bikes that hadn't been run in properly & speed sensor failure but mostly at the pick-up unit which was usually cured by fitting an revised/updated pick-up.
Have read likewise elsewhere so no major vices

There's other ZX12 times from back then that we're up around 285 odd but yeah, 300 was always something only the yanks seemed to manage.

TWR, look up the brake pads for a ZX1200 B1 or B2. I think you'll find they're the 6-pot Tokicos. The radial brakes came after the body styling change by 2 years.

Lol. No matter what you say you will always find someone you offended.
The 14 i rode was a lot of bike. I would definitely own one. If I could find one I could afford. They are after all significantly more expensive than a similar vintage / mileage Hayabusa.

When I bought the 'busa I was happy enough with my Gsx1100f but in the back of my mind I was trying to get to where I could liberate the necessary for a 6 year old Kawasaki I just never seemed to have re deposit for. Then one day I was shopping for a jacket and bought a Hayabusa for 4k less.

I have tried to buy (but never succeeded) several big Kawasakis.

The GPX Haldanes didn't want to sell me. Apparently too much like hard work to sort out a test ride for someone waving most of the window price in cash.
The ZZRs that kept selling before I had the money.
The ZX10 I like but not enough to sell the Hayabusa.
The ZX14 that Mt Eden had but for some reason I just did not gel with.

Just never had means motive and opportunity at the same time.
But the Kawasaki that girds my loins has always been the 11 and 12. They sing such lusty songs.
