Ok, My 14 year old is interested in racing bikes, I suspect that's my fault for dragging him along to the TT/Southern 100 and Wanganui road races at an impresionable age. This has resulted in dreams of being the next Guy Martin/Bruce Anstey.

So the question is would buckets be a suitable place for him to test the water in terms of bike racing, allow him to get an idea of what it's all about, if he's going to fall of then at speeds which whilst they will hurt won't hopefully be to damaging.

If buckets would be a good place to start what would be a suitable bike, that would allow him to learn a bit about spannering and prep of bikes but would broadly be reliable so that for him I suspect riding will initially be the interesting bit.

Perfect place to start.
Come along to the next meet, it's on the 14th of December at Kaitoke.
It's best to come along, talk to people there and get an idea of what's involved.
Track stuff starts around 9:30-10am.
Best bike to look at is an FXR150, there are some other good options depending on circumstances but the trusty old FXR is a good quick and easy way to get a competitive bike.

race a super bike as the tracks are wide and easy to get around , if your race a bucket go for a mb100 as they shite them selfs most meeting and your kide will not have to race:lol:

Mate, buckets is the perfect start point for your boy, fxr150 is the perfect bike, kaitoke is the perfect track. On offer is a track loan bike, check the sticky threads. Also most others will let you or your boy have a go on there's. Expect to see both of you next time out! It's heaps of fun and he'll learn alot.

Thanks Guy's. We did come down and watch some of the races in the afternoon so I will certainly try and get him along next month for a chat and see what goes on. It was good to watch went on and point out he would need to muck in with the marshalling etc.

Whilst buying an MB100 might appeal to his mum especially if he never got to race it I don't think he would enjoy that scenario.

Anyway he's keen and it looks a laugh so will see what we can do.

Anyway joshing aside, and there will be plenty there are a heap of youngsters that have started from buckets. December's a funny meet as its the Christmas,. .. do so only a 1/2 day but come up and say hi. Fortunately only the welly guys from this thread will be there:-)

Get private health insurance so you can get timely access to orthopaedic surgeons. Try and find a scheme that includes physiotherapy.
