A Dunedin City Council parking enforcement officer is interviewed by police while clutching her back, minutes after her scooter was allegedly rear-ended by a motorist in Dunedin yesterday. Photo by Peter McIntosh. Police are investigating after a Dunedin City Council parking enforcement officer's scooter was allegedly rammed from behind by a motorist yesterday.
The incident occurred about 12.15pm on the corner of Frederick and Cumberland Sts, Senior Sergeant Darryl Lennane said.

The parking officer's scooter was struck by a utility vehicle whose driver had, moments earlier, been issued with an infringement notice, he said.

The male driver then allegedly threatened the parking officer with a crutch, before police arrived, he said.

The driver was spoken to by police, but investigations were continuing, he said.

The parking officer, a middle-aged woman, suffered a ''sore lower back'' as a result of the incident, Snr Sgt Lennane said.

She is understood to have undergone medical checks following the incident.

Snr Sgt Lennane could not yet say what prompted the incident, or whether the officer's scooter had been rammed deliberately.

Council regulatory services acting group manager Adrian Blair said in a written statement yesterday the parking officer was ''resting at home''.

''Thankfully, the parking officer involved was not badly hurt ... but this has been an upsetting incident.''

Much better to stop quickly in front of one of them. I did that once and he ran into the back of my car. Started getting all noisy until I pointed out he was at fault for being unable to stop.

well i hate to say it but i have never had a problem with the DCC parking nazis, if your in your car they dont chalk the tyres, a couple of times i have been moved on from loading zones etc when waiting for my wife, they always ask nicley, and frankly without them you wouldnt ever get a park, my gripe is with the DCC themselves slowly doing away with the free parking on the outskirts of town in a effort to force people on to the busses

Forget the birds occupation. It's a car v bike. Cars fault, appears so anyway. Appears a bit to coincidental not to be intentional.

If I was the driver Id be getting a good lawyer.
