Anyone done an H4 LED conversion?
Looks like there are two types, fan cooled and heatsink cooled.

space in the old BMW headlight shell could be an issue.

Why does an LED bulb need extra cooling, I thought they emitted practically no heat?

Not a very confidence inspiring blurp.........

looks like it sticks out quite a bit in the back
good luck asking questions.....

Not sure if they throw the right beam pattern out of halogen reflectors...

They're a lot more efficient than halogens, but due to size and narrow band emmisions they still put a lot of heat out through convection when you use the superbright (do not look directly at) ones. Additionally they probably have resistors in there to control the voltage.

I found it originally on an ADV rider thread http://stores.advmonster.com/h4-led-headlight/

Looks to work with the headlights were the lens does the beam control rather than the rear reflector type.

Length could be an issue.

Yeah the Chinese Ebay Gen 1 gen 2 thing is confusing..

Might be worth a punt on the old Beemer

Ah...took a punt, can't be any more useless than the remote tyre pressure/temp units I bought recenlty....

Good luck!

If only it were that simple for my H1 & H3 combo. They are a little more challenging on beam patterns. I'm considering replacing the projectors with hids. Expensive f-up if i get it wrong.

I've done this conversion already. I had to cut a wider hole in the head light housing to fit the lights, as a result ~ 5mm of the base of the LED is sticking out from the housing.

Worrying thing is I'm reading >15V at normal cruising RPMs, will this damage the R/R in the long run? I've turned on the heated grips, so it stays at ~13.8V.

Besides that, these lights are farkn bright, makes previous halogen lights (ie osram nightbreaker / philips vision plus / ring +120) look like dim candle light by comparison.

Hey, I have an Aprilia Futura RST1000 which I want to upgrade to LED before Winter. Any thoughts out there? Fan/no fan? ballast/no ballast units?
Annoyingly I need 3 (1 H7 for low beam, 2xH7 for highbeam) - gonna light good though!
I have lots of room behind the headlight unit :)

Looking at a few on ebay - any thought on these or any other recommendations out there?

The LED lamp arrived.
Decided as the BMW R80ST had the most room in the headlight shell it could be the guinea pig.

308645
Low Beam

308646
High Beam

308647
Took about a minute to swap out the lamps.

308648
Headlight shell.

308649
Low Beam

308650
High Beam

Conclusion: its brighter. Legal....., good beam spread.....

I've never noticed before but when high beam is on , low beam stays on..... Its a US import so who knows, or may be a wiring fault?

How does it go in the wild? Any chance of some pics head on in the dark or from the saddle facing down an unlit lane?

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.

Took it for a WOF today, had original H4 just in case....passed, no comments.:woohoo:
Focus this time was on rusting spokes and being seen to fit the sticker.

Rode home in dark this evening, much 'whiter'
Certainly less drain on the old BMW electrix...headlight does not even get warm.

Does the beemer use the lens or the reflector to set the beam pattern?
