After being a road cone waving a flag at Hampton on Sunday, my lust was still stronger than ever to be out on the track.

Collecting dust in the garage is an 82 katana GS550m

Im looking at entering this racing thing and giving it a bit of a go...wheres the best website a beginner can read up on everything

Or build a side car and enter that.....

Road riding isn't doing it for me.....it's just not fast enough...need a new challenge!

I found bucket racing was a good starting point, then some ART days , followed by the California Superbike School. Built a pre 76 out of bits and then went to Puke in 2012.
Don't spend too much on the 550, set of decent road tyres will do. Good fun :niceone:

Advice? - buy the red one. Odds are you will be happy. Science has proven red does have a better performance....learnt that watching a doco about colours and how we react to them.

Point 2 baby! I was a crazy orange cone! Boy did I do some drooling! Some sexy asses out there hahahaha.

If I do the track thing, Im going to need someone else to help with the mechanical side as interpretation of the manual......is somewhat a foreign language!

Hurry up and get out on track dammit.

The Katana will be good for Clubmans to start with then Posties Junior. However, it's usually better to get something a bit more dedicated for the track, unless you don't mind crashing your bike.

Best bet would be buying a cheap ready to ride track bike and forget the 550.
Get something with 17inch wheels and low weight. 550 will probably leave you feeling a bit flat about racing and cost more to get ready than a bike ready to go.
I tried a gs750 and it didn't even get to the race track. Slow, heavy, terrible handling, bad brakes, poor ground clearance and tires no good for cornering. Solution spend a huge amount of money to get a below average bike or spend less buying a better bike.

Something like this

Or barter with this guy a bit. Hes a bit to overpriced I think. I got my 1989 fzr1000w for 4k.
