For I am about to impart upon you two fantastic eateries that are cheap, cheerful, bloody good and largely unknown. I do this merely as I don't want them to disappear.

Swagat Indian in Maungaraki shopping area.

Bazz Sovalaki high street, way up in the desolate part near hells pizza.

Enjoy. And/or add your suggestions. Anyone tried that Hungry Jacks place where the Mexico place failed? Another doomed area.

Wow a kinda of nearly absolutely positively Wellington thread....
Not sure I'd be eating Indian in lower hutt when Wellywood has such fine places to eat so close.
Highly recommend Restaurant 88, authentic Vietnamese.
That Kebab place that was on the food truck show, and the other kebab place nearby that looks like that one along with Sahara café all do awesome kebabs/Turkish in their own ways.
There's a bar nearby too where all the women inside insist on dancing naked on the tables, the bloody drinks cost a fortune though....

Back to topic, a little further up the road is http://www.trenthammotels.co.nz/ A good place to stay if attending a sports event nearby or your just a fugitive on the lam.
Couple of friendly but slightly odd in a b grade movie way guys running the place. Was in wagon but seems like a bike friendly place.
Several days later I was quite ill though, not sure if it was the kebabs, naked dancers, extreme endure sports event or the motel that was responsible for that. And Jesus Christ, going for supplies at U'Hutt Pak n Save was feral central, made my local one look more like a New World!

Cheers, my point was that this suburban Indian is as good as the welly ones I used to frequent. (Before kids when going out meant a trip into the real town).

I've lived in the hutt 20 years now as work was there and commuting from Karori where I grew up was a pain. I used to hate the place, esp come lunchtime where all that was on offer was pies and curly sandwiches while Falcons and Holdens cruised around. But those guys grew up or moved out as house prices spiralled. Its a well different place now.

Margueritas. The place that closed. Excellent food. Must have been hard to survive through winter with half of your tables under canvas on the footpath.

I'm just happy that there's so many good places offering good examples of different cuisines now.

When I were a nipper a slice of beetroot in your cheeseburger qualified it as "foreign muck".

Bottom end of Moera. Although to be strictly fair I think it's fairly generic.

Used to be regular pitched battles between the Ford factory guys and the railways guys, both of who claimed it as home turf.

The Malaysian place at Station Village usually gets a visit when I'm down that way, I reccommend the Beef Rendang. There was an Indian place in Fairfield, Gujraat Express, is it still there?
