View Full Version : How long does your watch battery last for?

This is my first poll.
So how many years is your watch battery good for?
Have just changed the battery in my favourite watch for the first time in 11 years.
ELEVEN YEARS!! OMG that's like nearly a world record!
Bought watch this time of the year 11 years ago for $18.
It was like an end of an era, one morning the watch greeted me with a blank expression, no more digital ticks where occurring and the typical push any button or light squeeze of past 2.5 yrs couldn't awaken it from it's deep sleep.
Continued to wear it for another two days in mourning before dragging myself into a jeweller shop and spending $5 for a new Swiss made battery. $15 if I got them to put it in.
Carefully whipped off the back, extracted the old battery and fitted the new. It was very nice to see life restored. The digits are now sharper than they've been for years.
My watch is a Casio F-28W powered by a 3V Lithium battery. It's a black watch with black resin band (for the first six months before it broke anyhow. Sports a donor watch metal strap since).
Key Features are:
Gender .......................... Male
Auto-Calendar ................ Yes
Module .......................... 586
Approx. Battery Life ......... 7 years
Colour ........................... Black
Display .......................... Digital
Band Type ..................... Resin
Water Resistant .............. Yes
12/24-Hour Formats ......... Yes
Accuracy ....................... +/-30 seconds per month
Battery Type .................. CR2016
Dial Code ....................... Digital
It has got everything that I need and nothing that I don't. Really love how it doesn't have a light (very battery draining), alarm or stop watch. Only features I require ironical it has: Day of week, date of day, month, and 24-hour clock.

For the life of the watch or forever.
It's powered by ambient light.

I don't actually know how long the battery lasts, I guessed 4 years, but could be wrong. I've replaced it at least once. The watch looks like its of a similar era to yours, I think I might've got it in '94-'95. It's actually a combination of two watches, my sister got one the same as mine, but the case of one watch broke and the circuitboard of the other one broke, so I put the good bits together to make a working watch. The strap has been replaced a few times too.

awwww gee my first watch lasted one year, cos my skin ate the back of it.
Yep I have that type of skin....hehehe
I need to have stainless steel backs on my watches.
Second watch lasted from 1971 to 2003 - never had a overhaul, no batteries..
A great watch it was... bashed around and wacked so much and it just kept on ticking on. Replaced the glass on it twice... and I went away from leather type straps with a watch cover to a stretchy strap. That strap is now on the watch I wear now. Was very sad to not use my old watch anymore.. Still have it...
This watch that I have now has a battery in it.. brought it in 2003.
Cost a bit too.
Reason is that it would cost so much to overhaul my watch.
All my watches that I have owned haven't been digital...
I like to tell the correct time... lol.
Sorry no pics of them as I dont own a digi camera.

Wouldn't have a clue, every watch I've had has died or been stolen before it reaches 3 - 4 years old.
Every one of them gets bashed on various items as I walk by, esp door frames because they are only slightly wider than me...

Man of discernment! Only just had mine replaced after 10 years of ownership. Keeps almost perfect time. However, the seal on the bezel needs replacing and you really don't want to know how much that is going to cost! Apparently, the best TAG service people are in Chch.

yeah hopefully it will last a fair time! Did you replace it with another one? I avoid using the bezel much as I have had this cause failures in watches before, one the face fell out!

Those Seiko watches that run of kinetic charge are pretty cool. I don't own one though. Coming to think of it I have not worn a watch for a good year or so since I just use the clock on my mobile phone.

I love ABBA music... and I would prefer that my watch that I have now didn't run by a battery.... I like winding up a watch to work...

I have one - movement swings a pendulum which charges the battery - only had it about a year - but super so far.

Watch?
Why?
My cellphone, palm, gps, digi-camera, speedo all tell me what the time is.
But I do have a polar pulse monitor watch for training.

Yep, it was about 5 years ago. About Time in Newmarket did it/got it done cos I bought it from there but popular wisdom is get the agents in Chch to do everything as they're so good.

I have a Citizen Wingman, which I had fully overhauled by Capital Watch Services last June when I binned the FZR and the strap was broken and the glass face scratched.
Cost me $185 for new glass, strap, and getting the seals redone.
Stupidly I didn't get the battery replaced and now its running out, which means I get about 2.5 years out of it.
Not too bad for a watch which has so many functions ...

Tag Heuer ...havent had to replace the battery yet
About four years mine lasts before needing a feed.
My other watch is one of those wrist movement windyupbyitselfjobbies. Apparently when you move your wrist around it generates an electric current, sufficient to charge a small battery within the watch. So I was thinking of getting shed loads of porn DVDs in this weekend and wiring my watch up to the TV in order to power it. If I slow down on the wrist action the TV then dies, so the porn should keep me going.
I could be there for months.

I feel ripped off, mine has the same concept, but has no battery. Everytime i use the watch i have to wind the fucker up, reset the time. Can be bit of a ordeal when your already smashed.

So my cellphone, palm, gps, digi-camera and speedos may be overkill?
Maybe I should drop the speedos.
:D
Man with one watch knows what time it is.
Man with 2 watches is never sure.

Some interesting watches people have. Noticed none are Swiss army knife versions with compasses and such.
I've always wanted one of those "wrist movement windyupbyitselfjobbies" or even just a simple a wind up one.
Have got other watches with analogue faces, but their batteries are all flat. Their batteries only last 2 years and find it's costly to keep running when they're not really getting used.
Got a wall mounted wind up clock, except it runs at 63-66 minutes per hour after I heavily lubricated it with silicon spray when it stopped working. Needs to go into a repair shop.
Also got a mantle place unit with chimes and glass door, but it's complete and broken. It's currently on top of my bookshelf and sometimes you can hear it going tick-tock for 1/2 an hour yet it's not had a windy up for years.

i bought a really nice titanium Citizen Skyhawk with ecodrive off ebay 18 months ago. NZ$400 landed - $1300 as quoted at about 4 watch shops!
no light, just really good luminesce, but it has quick check UTC and flight leg timing which is essential for accurate cross country flying. i love it.
