Hi All,
A friend and I are taking our 250's down the South Island to Queenstown which we are both looking forward to as our 1st Roadtrip for 5 days.
However, we don't have a bike rack or anyway to bring our luggage.
Is anyone able to rent out a saddle bag, bike racks or paneers to me to use for 5 days.
This would really help out!!
Thanks,
Nathan

When are you going?
I have a rack that would suit a large duffle bag if installed over the rear seat but would need brackets made etc.
Would need see your bike and see what could be fitted.
Saddle bags on some bikes can be very hit and miss with muffler clearances etc.
You really need list both bike models and years and the dates your travelling.

Pannier racks are bike specific. "Borrow" is NOT (usually) an option.
I might suggest a large "Overnight " bag and a few Bungy cords.

I just use a backpack, gets a little uncomfortable at times. But sometimes it is better to be a little uncomfortable than stay at home with a menopausal woman.:msn-wink:

If your stuck let me know I have some time available on Sunday and this rack that I bought for a trailer and never used.
I have a black carry bag that would hold the same as 2 saddle bags. If mounted in the correct spot it will also help position saddle bags if you need fit both.

Long term these are very good and the buy now price is cheap.
I had a larger one on my first trailer and it was very easy to get a good weight balance if loaded correctly.
Points scored if you know this Southern Location.

Is your tank steel or plastic?
If steel - I would buy myself a tank bag - oxford ones are great bang for buck...
Pretty sure I have some soft panniers you could borrow but I'd need to dig them from the pile of munt... They usually don't work well on modern sports bikes though as they rub the shit out of the seat cowling/side panels. Other option is a big soft bag inside a couple of rubbish sacks tied across your pillion seat. I use a kayak dry bag because I have them but a rubbish sack (or two) works fine...

Do not use bungey cords, unless a short journey they always come loose or snap at the worst time etc and stuff usually slips out from underneath with vibration. I only ever use them as a secondary layer to stop things flapping.
You'll need ssome tie down mini strops for ferry, use those to crank your load down on seat.
You can use a cheap blue tarp and roll up your stuff into a soft luggage arrangement. I've done this on the DR, folded the tarp as long narrow strip then rolled it around sleeping bag, tent and bedroll.

Way betterera than the average bungey cords.
You're only going for 5 days, how much shit are you taking?

Take care with securing your gear, loose luggage in the rear wheel is what put a biker and pillion in the wire rope at
Rangiriri a little while back.

Now that's a cool trailer - did you buy or make it? does it work well?

Yeah for sure. I have a mate that uses those nets, never had any issues...but then with any luggage, whether it tied down or in saddle bags, if you don't ensure it's safely secured, it can fuck you up.

On my CB750F1 I had backpack that I sat on the passenger part of the seat and over the rear wheel. Worked a treat. Old bikes had shit tons of places to tie stuff down to though.

Yeah, the vf has good tie down spots, but I would rather just wear the pack because I have seen what happens when things come undone and catch in the wheel.
Plus mostly I travel light, so it is not much more uncomfortable than wearing a day pack.

Is first one I made. Sold it after selling the MT01 and made another for the 14.
Not hard to make but its seems to cost a bit more than you would think to put one together.
Probably would have been better off buying hard luggage kit to be honest.

So you pack your best wallet and your phone and then the wife gives you the gear she wants to take.

Usually have to take the bus or the car if she's coming with me, she is not an adventurous spirit unfortunately. Even had to install a chem toilet in the bus for the precious wee thing.:baby::baby:

Hi Paul,
Would love to borrow those soft panniers for the 5 days if possible. I have purchased the Oxford cable bag for something on the rear seat but pannier room would be gr8.
I could stop in this w/e if your available.
Cheers
