Hi all, I'll be traveling up to Auckland and back from Christchurch, starting tomorrow. Returning back to Christchurch on the Christmas day. Will post my ride updates and photos on this thread.
If you see a black S1000RR with saddle bags, giz a wave! If you see it stranded, help a brother out! :sunny:

Someone you know from your early days of motorcycling is staying here at the moment EJ. He leaves on Monday.

For us BMW riders removing a hand from the bars is considered "bad form" :msn-wink:

Who could that be? Don't tell me it's Laava!

He will be too busy praying that his rear tyre will last the distance and adhering to the 1kph tolerance to notice anything else.

Beautiful day to start. Departed Christchurch around 7:00am, then went through Kaikoura stopping by briefly to take some photos.
East coast was getting HOT! Other then that the ride was fantastic.
Departing 5:00am tomorrow in the morning to avoid holiday rush :sunny: Hope the weather holds in Auckland!
1. Tourist.
2. From Kaikoura lookout
3. On the boat.

Lovely bike that EJ, great day here for catching up with the odd (and some not so odd) KBer's. Marty/Steve (not so crazy) Al/Mark Waters and of course EJ, finished off with a feed of Pizza for tea, looks like another one turning up tomorrow, Jen from the top of the south island is popping in for the night, have not seen her in a few years.

Time for an update. Sorry for the late update, I didn't have an access to a computer during the trip.
I left Porirua at 5:00am in the morning to avoid the major holiday traffic out of Wellington, then arrived in Auckland at around 2pm-ish. Forecast was not so great all over the north island and was expecting downpour. Luckily, the weather started to open up just when I was passing through Bombay Hill, just south of Auckland. I then went straight to Mom/ Maha's accomodation in Takapuna to wrap up the day. That evening a few KBers came by (Laava and MarkW. Aparently I'd just missed Crazy Steve and Jafar too).

Day 3
On the next morning I caught up with some friends in Auck town. While I was catching up with some of my friends, someone had stolen my jacket and backpack! :mad: Thankfully the theif left my helmet behind (thanks bastard! :mad:) I guess that's Queen street. Shouldn't have left anything unattended. Luckily I still had my bike key, phone and wallet with me. Also the jacket was over 6 years old, I had 5 crashes on it, and bought it from MotoMail for $110 so it wasn't a big loss for me. Thank God I didn't wear my Dainese jacket for this trip.
That afternoon I was catching up with Gremlin, TOTO and Musicman in east Auckland. So without a choice I rode from central to all the way to the east Auck wearing only t-shirt, gloves and a helmet (ATGATT anyone?). While I was passing some bikers I was thinking to myself "Ah, please don't look at me as if I'm a squid!". :facepalm:
Day 4
Luckily Cycletreads was just down the road from where I was staying. So in the morning I dropped by and got myself a replacement jacket and a tail bag for the S1000RR. Now this "Race Replica" supersport bike was fully geared up for touring (nodrog :msn-wink:).
Then I met up with the legendary GIJOE1313 and TOTO to go for a bit of a pootle though the Scenic Drive.
<img width="600" src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=307091&stc=1&d=1419568978" />
That evening I met up with the one and only Kiwifruit and jrandom for go-kart riding and a meal.

At night (my last night in Auckland) I rode all around the Auckland via nicely built motorway from central to westgate, then to Albany, back down to central then up again to Takapuna. Had awesome fun riding through the empty motorway at night. Back at the accomodation we (Maha, Mom, MarkW and I) caught up with MyGSXF and had a drink in warm-and-humid Auckland evening.

Day 5
It was time to head home. I left Auckland around 7:00am, headed west to Taranaki via SH3. The weather was perfect low 20s and reaching mid 20s at some parts of the country. Under baking sunny weather I had fun through the twisties in Awakino gorge. I wasn't thrashing or going crazy, just fun using every inch of the tyre available :sunny:
<img width="600" src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=307095&stc=1&d=1419570731" />

After having a brief rest in New Plymouth I went right around the west coast of Taranaki to Wanganui. I didn't particularly liked that part of the road. Chipseal needed a bit of TLC.

Day 6
On my way down from Wanganui to Wellington I stopped by in Otaki for breakfast. Here on Kiwibiker I recall seeing a cafe owned by a KBer, who had his Porsche diecast collection displayed inside the cafe :eek: (link here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/129029-Anyone-collect-models-cars-or-bikes?p=1130112187#post1130112187)). I didn't meet the person but had a gaze over the Porsche collection while having breakfast.

What a great place! Would visit often if there was a cafe like this in Christchurch.

Day 6 cont.
Weather was absolutely stunning hot in Wellington that day. So I rode upto Mt Victoria lookout to check out the scenery (I'm a tourist too).
<img width="600" src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=307107&stc=1&d=1419572315" />
One benefit of touring on a BMW superbike is you get A LOT of attention from tourists. Most of them own, or have owned a motorcycle in the past.
<img width="600" src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=307108&stc=1&d=1419572315" />
At the summit I met a Dutch couple. They came over to me saying "iz dat ure motubiek?". We shared stories such as where we have been, where we are headed and what we do. Aparently they also owns a BMW too (2014 R Nine T), and is currently traveling NZ top to bottom.
It seems encounters like this makes motorbike travel tad more special :sunny:

Day 7
At 7:30am in the morning I took the ferry to get to Picton. Initially I was planning to ride straight down the SH1 back to Christchurch but the weather was too good to miss more riding. Also I've never done Lewis Pass before so it was a good excuse to take the scenic route through Nelson :sunny:
Riding between Picton and Nelson was fantastic, but from Murchison to Lewis Pass was frikkn incredible! Would love to do that road again sometime!
After all this awesome roads, ride to Akaroa seems dull now :weird:
<img width="600" src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=307109&stc=1&d=1419573127" />
So after about 3,000kms I got home just in time for Christmas dinner. What next, South Island? :eek:
<img width="600" src="http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=307110&stc=1&d=1419573127" />
Note:
I had put new pair of Metzeler M5s a couple of weeks before the trip. With about 4,000kms on it the tyre looks healthy. Guess I don't ride hard enough!
With all this kms done during the trip, the big 30,000km service is already due soon :(
