Took SuzuQ's 02 R6 600n for a spin to day I was asked to just to see what I thought of the handling as it aparantly wasent feeling right.
So meet up with BrenChch and hit the hills for Akaroa. Now this is the 1st time I have ridden a late model 600 so I have nothing to compare it to in that class but as I'm used to big twins and a K4 thour then it did feel a tad odd to me.
So answer me this six hundie owners do they drop a hell of a lot quicker into a corner than a 1000? do they tend to be blowen about a bit more and tend to feel a bit skaty?
Other than getting used to the bike I felt that it was fine after a few suspension changes and I had a ball on it hits 200 quick as wheelies nicely and pulls well over 10k not me but good fun for an arvo riding...... which reminds me Bren.... you ran out of gas mate, but why would you not get on the back of the R6 so I could take you to the servo for gas?? huh... big wimp arnt ya scared of a wee 600 and I thought you were a tough kinda smoth dude, ya blowse even the girls arnt scared to ride pillion with me :devil2: well at least once anyway......... fill ya tank to the top next time wally  :spudflip:

What size front tyre has it got? The R6 always ran an oddball size tyre especially for that bike, a 120/60 or 65 profile. It is designed to tip in faster than standard, if switching to a more common 120/70 careful that the tyre doesnt rub on the front gaurd as the tyre can "grow" at speed and rub a hole on the front edge.

Hell yeah. My RR dropped into corners soooo easily. Check that the rear shock hasn't been raised or fitted with larger springs. And yes - because they're so light they do feel a little more 'twitchy' in the front, being such light buggers.
That's why I'm such a nanna on the tight twisties when riding the Bird. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I just checked the front tyre - it is a 120/60 17 :sherlock:

current superbike did a comparison of the 04vs 05 so tried the 70series tyre on the older bike without changing the mudgaurd and it burned a hole in the mudgaurd

Perhaps he was scared of getting too close to you, given your reputation with the boys!!!

Repeat after me: There is nothing wrong with a 120/60x17 front tyre.
If you're good enough to notice the difference on the road, stop riding on the road and get to a race track.
Yes the 02 R6 is supposed to have a 120/60 front tyre.
So does my 04 R6. I like it.

They say they handle nicer (I say nicer, not better) with a 70 on the front... But ya have to change the guard.

So if Bren's a wimp for not going for a hoon on the back of a bike with you riding, D. Does that mean you're alot tougher and ould sit on the back of a bike with me doing a few laps of Ruapuna? C'mon tough guy....

"They" being people who test bikes for a living. The rest of us mortals wouldn't know the difference. I find the R6 stable as a stable and it steers sublimely, with no bump steer and plenty of feel. It also flicks from side to side really easily with a minimum of fuss.

I think the '05 comes with a 70. So. Does that mean anything? No? Hmmm.

What cracks me up about these journalists, is they're apparently so well qualified to speak of a good and bad handling bike, tyre sizes, suspension settings etc etc. The majority of them are chooks. (And I'm happy for any to prove me wrong, just lend me a bike and meet me at the track)

The '05 is a completely different bike from the ground up. I understand what you are saying about the experience and "opinion" of the bike testers, but being a stinky skunk you're refusing to pay attention to my point. The rest of us mortals wouldn't know the difference. It steers better and with better feel than my previous three bikes.

Some people might like the feel of the 70 over the 60 or 65 on any bike. I got the feeling SuziQ didn't like the twitchy feeling so maybe it 70 might be better for her.
I got your point. But I'm pissed. :hbd:
I did the same thing to my ZX6R. I felt better.

I'm sure the R6 is fine, SuzyQ, just very different from your GSX750F, you'll get use to it, they are very responsive and sharp steering and handling. Actually pretty close to a GP bike for the road (a 250GP bike). It will tip in and drop into a corner quicker than you would be use to, but thats whats its designed to do.

SuzyQ's R6 felt very heavy in the steering for a start, the damping on the forks was set on soft and the tire pressures were down , so I increased both and it felt alot better. I thought I would get Dangerous's opinion. He seemed to like it. :ride:

I will be taking the R6 out tomorrow for my first decent ride after the "tweaking" done by DD and 30UTD. I took it to work today, but of course round town couldn't really tell what had changed, but then again I just ride I don't anylise! Hanmer here we come! In fact this ride will be the 3rd decent ride on the bike, it gets better all the time but still getting used to it. yes it is very different from the 750f but that is what I wanted - get out of the comfort zone! Will check in after the ride. :spudflip:

Had a great ride to Hanmer today - in the group we had 3 Yamaha's - Me on the R6, Richard on the Tmax 500cc scooter and an XV750 bored out to a Thousand, 30UTD on the K4 1000 and Steve on his CBR1000. Great weather and the bike felt great, all the tweaking made a difference and all is well. It is a wee bit demoralising when the scooter passes - and he is 2 up - but at least i wasn't the only one he passed - little shit!
I have to my my wrists were feeling it - different riding position than the old bike, so I will have to work on them to strengthen them up, also kept losing 30UTD!!! We took the long way home via Waikari, Scargill and Greta Valley and then turned off at Amberley to go the back way to Rangiora. The XV750 nearly ran out of petrol and had to use reserve on the way to hanmer so it stands to reason he would have to fill up at some stage on the way home, so he stopped at the first station after turning off at Amberley so i stopped to change gloves and Manuboy - who joined us in Waikari - and 30UTD carried on oblivious and didn't realise we weren't behind them untill Rangiora, they waited a wee while but not long enough. When I got home I had a message from 30UTD who thought I must have turned off at Sefton - why??? and he was at Dangerous's dropping off Manuboys bike. Ah well I got to ride at my own pace and the weather was nice!!! the R6 handled well and I am very pleased with her. :2thumbsup

To be honest I'm buggered if I know how he could have ridden it with the suspension set up the way it was...... but then again I aint no sus expert, just know what I like.

i told him to have a play but he seemed to be happy and was riding well dont think he even had a moment on it. Took it to a levels hav a go day, and seemed to of found limit to pilot sports(which i dont rate on track) maybe it was limit of settings. tyres seemed to be wearing well though so cant of been to bad. (if thats anything to go buy)
