Yo guys!

20 Years old
Auckland
Studying Personal Training & I.T and trying to start a business.

Been thinking about getting a bike since I was like 15 when I use ride my mountain bike around. I think it's time for me to actually start now.
Can't make my mind up whether to choose a sports bike or a cruiser, leaning more towards a cruiser.

Also really interested in making motovlogs if I can find the time. Been watching tonnes of YouTube videos.

Any tips for a new rider like me that doesn't know jack shit other than clutch and how the gearing system works.

Welcome fella:niceone:call me old fashioned but another 1st bike choice would be a road legal trail bike they come with built in features like being able to be piloted down riverbeds/gravel roads etc etc (doing so will teach you skills far beyond wobbling about on public roads) and dont break expensive bits when you fall off which you will.Whatever you choose enjoy.

Sup dude.

If you're looking at starting a business, should you be looking at motorbikes? It can get very expensive.

What type of riding would you be doing? Big touring rides all over the country? Just commuting to work and weekend blasts?

What's your budget? Before you even look at a bike, buy all the gear.... All the gear. That way you don't spend too much on the bike then bin it in sneakers and fuck your feet for life.

What sort of things should I be looking for when i'm purchasing a used bike?

I'm looking at this one cruiser right now and it's been deregistered as it's been sitting in the sellers garage for over 2 years, will have to take it through compliance and all that bullshit but other than that, they started it up and it started up allright it just needed a new battery. Any potential problems with it?

It's a 2007 Huiniao and it's done 2000 kms

2000.

What are your thoughts? I'd have to arrange transport and all that of course as the bike is de-registered.

My thoughts are if they are going to give you $2k to take it away...take it.
If they expect you to pay for it...run

Hyosungs are okay.

However if you decide to buy a Chinese bike, you deserve all the mechanical faults you'll get.

Agreed. I ideally do want something loud that does not look like a moped on steroids.

AKA GN250s or 125s

Howdy

Hyosung is ok for a L plater and you can get bits. Keeway is crap. The other thing your looking at is crap.

If you want a cruiser look for an Intruder, solid bike that goes well. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/classic-vintage/auction-822053836.htm

You will get all the gear you need and still be under 5k.:niceone:

You'd be better off on a GN250 than that Huiniao. How does one pronounce Huiniao correctly anyway?

The Intruder is the best of the bunch and will do all you want it to in the first instance. Definitely do not touch the chinese one even at that price.

OK, so from that I understand you don't really want a motorbike, just a noise maker.

What do you intend to use this noise maker for?

Do ya basic handling cert, get ya learners, visit local bike shops and do some test rides on different bikes. Figure out what sort of style you like by physically jumping on and trying them out ;) ,don't pick a bike just cos you like the look of it; then start trawling trademe to find what you know you like at the price thats right for you.
Don't limit yourself to cruisers or sports try anything thats lams approved; you may be surprised with what you're most comfortable on

possible look-ins...http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/cruiser/auction-820345216.htm
